I’d like to understand what Mittelstadt adds to the Canes roster?

Scoring? Minnesota accent? Some sort of Mighty Casey gimmick to match the storm surge?

I think the Oilers would be dumping Kassian's contract before Foegs and Ryan.

Cool attempt at a slight. He has 33 goals in 195 games, including only 6 in 40 games this year. That’s replacement level territory on the UFA market.

He finished the year with much better on ice impacts after getting injured and playing hurt. He's actually not bad if he's paired with a defensively responsible winger. Also, he's 23, unlike most replacement level UFAs who are usually late 20s early 30s. So you could see some growth to his game

Idk who takes that kassian deal. All the Oilers ACGM's have him traded to BUF and im just like "the analytics department would unplug all the phones and go dark" lol

The explanation below could probably be said about one underperforming RFA aged player on each team.

If I’m trading for someone - I don’t want to be hiding deficiencies in their games or seeing the words ‘not that bad’. Canes have their own underperforming players to work around.

Basically any team that needs to get to the cap floor.. that list does include BUF.
ARI, DET, SEA, ANA would be the other big ones

There are so many other better options and others with only 1 year left on their deal. That extra year hurts his value a lot.

Now, in the face of having damn near 50M in cap space, is an overpayment of 1M for Kassian really going to matter? His value is right around 2.2M for a player like him IMHO

Remember, he did have 19pts in only 58GP, is still fast, is physical most of the time (154 hits).
Despite the fan perception, the numbers arent horrible for this guy and he doesn't have the McDavid point bump at all.

His on ice impacts (XG and CF) are terrible at both ends of the ice. He takes a roster spot away from a younger player that the organization may want a longer look at.
