Détails additionnels:
I am prepared for Calgary fans' response. But after all the rotten trades Devils have gotten on ACGM for the 2nd overall, I figured I'd add one that actually helps us.

Either way, I think it's incredibly unlikely that Tkachuk is traded for the 2nd overall pick. The Flames would need immediate help and nobody at 2nd overall looks to step in right away. I know Hughes wouldn't step in right away either.

I don’t know what Calgary would do here. I’d think they would do everything possible to resign him.

But for us, never hurts to ask.

I think it would be foolish for Tkachuk to not take a long term deal this summer. He just beat his career high by 27pts. A career year is the best time to cash in.

Even if he doesn't want to play the next 8yrs in Calgary, he should lock in and get paid. Players have more power now than ever, it's not like him signing is an 8yr sentence.

I agree. He has earned that right to ask for top dollar. He is still young enough where the backend of that deal doesn’t look so hairy either.

It's going to be a tough offseason for the Flames.

If Gaudreau leaves and if they are unable to get an extension with Tkachuk done, I could see them doing the trade you proposed.

I think both players' future in Calgary are connected.

    That would stink.

It would kind of be like when Parise and Kovalchuk left NJ after Devils’ 2012 SCF run. In some ways, we are still feeling the ramifications of so much leaving with nothing in return. Actually negative impact in return if you count the lost top-10 pick and cap hit we still pay for the whole Kovalchuk debacle.

My guess is that Gaudreau splits and Tkachuk stretches every dollar out of Calgary and stays. But Flames fans would know better than I would.

Yeah it would be like the 2012 Devils, although the Flames may not make it that far.

Gaudreau is out of their control. He has earned the right to do what he wants. Right now, I think it's 50-50.

With Tkachuk, the Flames have at least one year of control. Although If Gaudreau leaves, I don't know if the Flames would play out a year of Tkachuk on a qualifying offer. In that scenario, a trade to your Devils makes sense. I stated earlier that I think Tkachuk should take a long term deal this summer, especially if Gaudreau leaves. Without Johnny, Tkachuk will be in the 60-80pt range, not 100+. This summer will give him the chance to sign for 80+ and put his career earnings over 100mill by age 32.

Back to Gaudreau quick, I think it's Calgary, Philly or NJ.

I can see how they would be interrelated.

I don’t see NJD as all that likely for Gaudreau. He is from South Jersey, closer to Philadelphia, and his summer place is all the way down the shore. And buddy Hayes is in Philky too. It’s a good 90-120 minute drive away. But I guess Taylor Hall went to Buffalo so he could get home more often (which was at that time about same distance away in Toronto). So maybe it’s worth it for these guys. But Washington DC is almost as close to his home as Newark is.

I am guessing Calgary, Anaheim, Philly, Detroit and Dallas for JG.

Trust me, I've been telling people that Gaudreau is more Philly than NJ for a while.

I just think that if he leaves Calgary, it's to be closer to home. I'm ruling out NYR/NYI/WSH I don't know if they have the room. There are always mystery teams too, maybe Seattle throws a ton of money at him.

    Shots fired? Not at all.
When other teams target our players, it is usually flattering.
(unless its that Severson-to-Leafs thing which will never die)

I like Tkachuk. I'd want Tkachuk on my team. That is nothing against Calgary fans.

And here I thought you were saying njd fans got bad value on here from lots of teams and we’re going to turn the tables lol
