That would stink.
It would kind of be like when Parise and Kovalchuk left NJ after Devils’ 2012 SCF run. In some ways, we are still feeling the ramifications of so much leaving with nothing in return. Actually negative impact in return if you count the lost top-10 pick and cap hit we still pay for the whole Kovalchuk debacle.
My guess is that Gaudreau splits and Tkachuk stretches every dollar out of Calgary and stays. But Flames fans would know better than I would.
Yeah it would be like the 2012 Devils, although the Flames may not make it that far.
Gaudreau is out of their control. He has earned the right to do what he wants. Right now, I think it's 50-50.
With Tkachuk, the Flames have at least one year of control. Although If Gaudreau leaves, I don't know if the Flames would play out a year of Tkachuk on a qualifying offer. In that scenario, a trade to your Devils makes sense. I stated earlier that I think Tkachuk should take a long term deal this summer, especially if Gaudreau leaves. Without Johnny, Tkachuk will be in the 60-80pt range, not 100+. This summer will give him the chance to sign for 80+ and put his career earnings over 100mill by age 32.
Back to Gaudreau quick, I think it's Calgary, Philly or NJ.
