The only way to contend next year

Description
Being real for a second, no matter what they do this offseason they won’t contend next year because ruff is still gonna be the coach. Also Fitz will not make the right moves, he talks like he wants to take the next step but he won’t make the moves to do it. Making moves to get to the next step may result in losing high value prospects but you have to know what trades are the right ones, trading a top prospect for a star in the devils case is what they need to move forward. They already have too many NHL potential prospects, they won’t even have enough roster spots if they all developed. There are 2 things that you should do with prospects: know which ones to develop and choose which ones to trade for star talent. In the devils case Fitz is to scared to make big trades and won’t fire the coach. Fitz already doesn’t seem like the right guy but unless he shocks and makes big moves this offseason the Devils aren’t going anywhere while his is the GM.

When I say go out and get wingers I mean Free agency the free agent winger class this year is stacked

Yea, so what I am saying is Fitz has made attempts in the past to improve each area of the ice and I heard no complaints at the time after each move, it was only Monday morning quarterbacking.

As for the stacked wings...same deal here....if you want a specific wing, state the price you are willing to pay. If Nichushkin goes for $5.75 somewhere, will you complain about that price elsewhere?

I also don't want to hear from fans saying "He should have offered Rust more" or anyone like that that takes a hometown discount, especially if they don't even get to UFA. I could see Forsberg signing 8x8 with Nashville before the draft.

Nichuskin, Mikheyev, Gaudreau(if he wanted to go big), Marchment, Copp, Burakovsky, Rodrigues, and more are all great winger depth he could bring on and he needs to sign at least 2 wingers if he doesn’t trade for any.

I have no interest in going massive on Gaudreau. I understand people want a 100pt player, but spending $11.5m-12m x 7 years is too risky when I do believe we will have to pay the talent we have here.
I hate free agency overall. I'm a strict conservative as I believe very, very, very few work out for a team. More of them become albatross deals teams try to move (see Tatar who isn't so much a very expensive one, but not worth it). Look at TB, none of those top players are UFAs, they just filled in the gaps. Ditto for COL. CGY's biggest ones are Coleman, Tanev, and Markstrom.

If Fitz can overspend on a winger with the intent of making it a 3 or 4yr deal instead of a 5 or 6, I'll take that. It's the term on those FAs that hurts most as the vast majority of FAs have already peaked.
