Agreed. In my opinion no player in this draft is NHL ready. Not many in last years draft was too. I think if you draft Shane Wright, you stick him in the AHL for a year. He can still learn a lot, and we can see what he can do. He will be playing against harder competition, but not incredibly hard guys like McDavid for example. I believe most of the players should go back to juniors, then the year after go in the AHL to learn more. It doesn’t hurt to send them to the AHL for a year. It’s better than ruining the prospect by rushing him. Like Lafreniere, Kakko for example. I would say they were not ready, even Hughes! I don’t mind giving them a look in the NHL, but not the whole season if they are not ready. That’s just what I think…

I agree. Give him the 10 games in the NHL or whatever the limit is before you burn a year off the ELC, see how he does, and then send him down. Habs will be bad again next year, so it's not worth ruining a top prospect (see Kotkaniemi, Jesperi). Going to Michigan for a season did wonders for guys like Power and Beniers and I would like to see more prospects (excluding the odd McDavid or Matthews caliber prospect) go back to the minors for another year or two to continue to develop.

I like that teams did that too. It doesn’t have to be the AHL that they have to go to, but just a junior team where they can learn more. Like I actually like what the Red Wings did with Moritz Seider. Drafted him, stuck him in the AHL, then had to loan him to the SHL for a year, then brought him up. 2 years after been drafted he was down in the minors, and look how he’s playing. You see a ton of players get rushed, and it’s very rare when a player is good enough to come up, and should come up. I don’t see the need with rushing. Like I don’t mean to call out a team, but the rangers are a perfect example for why you shouldn’t rush prospects. Some of their fans have an ego that they think they should be winning, so they draft a good prospect, call them up so they can try and contend, then the prospect flops. Now said prospect has to try his hardest in the big leagues the year after and try and get better. Let them mature more, let them learn more.

Wright can't go in the AHL, it's NHL or OHL. I think he's the only one who could make the jump straight to NHL this year. He's got nothing more to prove in the OHL. He'd be playing against kids.

Limit is 9 games. More than that would burn first year of his ELC. But would he get better playing against 16-20 years old kids in the OHL? Most first overall picks jump into the NHL on their draft year.

Why can’t he play in the AHL? I’m actually curious. If he can’t I guess he goes down to the OHL. I believe he can learn more from that league, and he will be able to play with his friends. He’s 18. Have fun before coming up to a league where you don’t know anyone. I think he can still learn plenty.

That's a rule in the 3 CHL leagues. Players under 20 have to go back to their CHL team unless they make it into the NHL.

Yes he would still learn and play alot, but it would be against players weaker than him.

He could also go to an European team or USA university, but i doubt it happens.

Ah okay, thanks. I didn’t know that. He would be playing against weaker players, but he should play well, and he can look at the game differently and get his game to be better. I can see why people would want to call him up, I just personally would not. I also doubt he plays in the USA, or European league. It will be either OHL, or NHL, depending on what the GM of the NHL team wants. I think he will come up though.

Ok give him the 9 games and see how he looks. He's also in a unique scenario because he missed a year of hockey due to Covid so there could be some benefit to him going back for another season. My biggest concern would be Wright coming straight to the league and performing like Laf has in his career.

He can't go to the NCAA since he has played in the OHL which the NCAA, along with the QMJHL and the WHL, considers professional leagues.
