Next year, perhaps

Description
Some thoughts for next year. I likely undervalued Darling a bit, but tbh we just need someone that can start 20-25 games for the love of god. Leaves about a million or so to sign a 4th line wing if there isn't an internal prospect.

I've seen enough people say Brodin is going to Vegas!!!??!? Why would you protect Scandella, Dumba, or Folin over Brodin!? Honestly at this point barring a trade there is a 0.000000001% chance Brodin goes to Vegas.
Wild brass is very high on Brodin, and if they were planning on exposing him or even trading him this summer there is no chance he would be playing in the IIHF World Championships which it was announced today he is. They wouldn't risk injury if they were planning on moving on from him, as it lowers his value.

Dumba, Scandella, and Folin all had a very speratic 2nd half and did not perform to their capabilities. Brodin is the 3rd best defenseman on the team.

If the Wild go the 7F-3D-1G protection route, the 3D will be Suter (NMC), Spurgeon, and Brodin. Mark my words.

People have their opinions, but Dumba is a big defensive liability for the Wild so any smart GM would protect Brodin over Dumba (the Wild of course do not have a smart GM so you never know). Plus, just because he's a RHD, he could get more value in a trade than Brodin could.
And it's not important, but Darling will be a starter for someone next year. I think Stalock could be a solid backup.

I agree on Brodin. I would hate to see him go, but I think the Wild will be looking to lose a salary on the back end, and that leads to Dumba being protected (both that he is inexpensive and RHD). I think the Wild would be wise to look at trading either Dumba or Brodin, depending upon which one they want to keep and trying to get Vegas to take Scandella's contract, but I'm not sure they will be able to pull it off.

All said, I think there is one MAJOR move coming this offseason as there is too much chance of losing big value for nothing.

As a fan of a team who needs D in the worst possible way, is it conceivable that Minny trades one of their good D for a ExpDraft replacement D man and a good pick?
You expose the player you traded for (yes Vegas could go another way and pick someone else) but the pick (you have none in the first 2 rds this year) helps make up for the lose.
Can a deal like that be worked out? I know the assets coming back have to outweigh just losing a guy to Vegas.

Not looking to poach, just trying to make a deal that works for both groups

To be honest, I think it will happen this summer. I'm not one that follows the AHL or team prospects, but I know we have a strong group of prospects coming up but could use the Wild trading one of our D core players for either a young exempt D-Man or even a forward. I don't know the shape of this thing, but I could see either Brodin or Dumba getting moved for something so we could protect the other. Not sure how it all works out.
