I'd rather just sign Folin for $1.5m than Girardi for the same price. Hell I'd rather play Prosser at league min over Girardi.
I'd rather have a different prospect than Bracco for Tor. The Wild just drafted small players and have other small players already in the AHL.</div></div>
The Toronto trade was purely speculation but I didn't just pull Girardi, Beleskey trade, Cullen and Kunitz out of my ass. They have all been reported/speculated by Michael Russo.

X Draft
The Wild can't give up another 1st round pick just to lay off Dumba and Scandella. I hope they just bite the bullet and let one go without trying to save them. Going 2 years in a row without a 1st or 2nd round pick would be horrible. If they strike a deal with Vegas I think it would involve several younger players in a package like Haula or Olofsson.

Although I would love that deal, that ship has sailed. The money doesn't work for Minnesota, and unless the Wild did some serious shuffling prior to a deal like that it couldn't happen.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>wabit</b></div><div>Tampa trade makes no sense for Minny. Where does Drouin play, and how do the Wild pay Granlund, Nino, and Drouin? How does Tampa afford Brodin at $4.1m?
MTL trade, puts MTL in a bind for their expansion draft and d-men. One of Weber, Petry (NMC), Beaulieu, Brodin (from trade). If Chucky is a wing and not a center then he's not much use for the Wild. If Chucky is a center then MTL needs to keep him.
Bos trade makes no sense from their PoV: Chara/McAvoy, Krug/Carlo pairing without the trade; Krug/Dumba pair is a disaster waiting to happen; Krug/Brodin is a more expensive Krug/Carlo.
Dallas trade is a division trade, makes it unlikely.</div></div>
Look all I'm doing here is laying the table for discussion. I'm not suggesting any of these trades it's just hypothetical baseline trades from what I've come across through Russo, Friedman and some internet searching. Like I said in the description I do not believe any of these to be a 1 for 1, these are simply that main pieces involved in the trades. I agree with every single one of your points here, other than where does Drouin play in Minnesota. If Wild acquire Drouin I'm fairly confident they can find a spot for him to play. :laugh

Brodin is the best skater on the Wild, has good outlet/breakout passes, shutdown d-man, plays both right and left sides equally well, he's rarely caught out of position. He currently is a Suter-lite, with the potential to almost meet that level of play. He has the same effortless looking style as Suter. He's on a decent contract, and would be worth signing another longterm deal when his current one expires.
His ozone abilities are under-rated, he's been put on babysitting duties or shutdown roles the last few seasons. This was his first year out of the Yeo defense first and always, take no chances philosophy.
His shot is average, so that could use some work. He needs to gain confidence in the o-zone. When he has that confidence it's like flipping a switch with how involved he is in the o-zone. He is a decent point man on the PP, not going to score a lot of goals, but will keep the PP moving and not bog/slow it down needlessly.
He's a similar player to Larsson, just lacks the physical play Larsson has.
That's the value MN fans see in Brodin.</div></div>
I know the kind of player he is but thanks for the insight. I just dont see this extremely high value that wildfan5611 insists of. Im just some guy on the internet so what do i know? We'll just have to see how it all unfolds</div></div>
I wasn't trying to argue with you and I apologize if that's how I came across. My point being is with the high demand for young defensemen with term, Brodin is extremely valuable in that sense. Is he the best defenseman on Minnesota? Nope. Is he the best defenseman on any team in the league? Nope. I am just trying to say that in this scenario with expansion there is going to be a lot of trades and some that may not make sense to the naked eye. I won't be surprised for a deal similar to one of these go down, but like you said we'll just have to see how it unfolds.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Doug7004</b></div><div>You have completely NO chance at achieving the value you you covet above! Vegas would simply pick off the available Dman and then flip him for the best available offer! Like I noted in the descripition, Brodin and Dumba are not the only pieces in these hypothetical trades. Especially in the Drouin or 3OA trade other pieces would be involved. I am simply laying the baseline for trade discussion. Friedman's 30 thoughts today suggested Vatanen or Brodin/Dumba could fetch Drouin. If Larsson can get Hall, I have no reason to believe that Brodin and Dumba are worth B level prospects or a 2nd in a weak draft. Like Wild GM and AGM have said, if they can't get value back for these pieces there is no need to move them. Deals can be negotiated with VGK to take a Zucker, or Staal, or Coyle and leave the defense alone. Trust me, Brodin or Dumba will not be thrown away for a B level prospect or 2nd round pick.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pasta88Sauce</b></div><div>Id love for you to explain to me why Jonas Brodin's value is "extremely high"</div></div>
Gee I don't know, maybe because he's a 23 year old top 4 defenseman on every team in the league other than Nashville. He is signed at $4.1 through 2020-21 and already has 5 years under his belt in the playoffs. Defenseman are extremely valuable in the league right now. Look at Hall for Larsson. If Adam Larsson can fetch a return that big, why can't Brodin? For what's it's worth, all I've seen on Bruins fans posts are Spooner or Hayes or 18th overall, and that is not nearly enough. I may be wrong and we all have our opinions and obviously hometown fans will probably value their players more...

The Tavares trade would be an absolute steal by Minnesota. Not a chance Isles take that. If that happened, it would arguably be the worst trade in sports history.

According to TSN Bergevin pushing for RNH and Eberle
That Wild trade is laughable. A 55-65 point top 6 center for a player who probably doesn't make the team out of camp and a 3rd round pick in a weak draft. Does not solve any of the Wild's problems. A few years back when Mitchell was on the Wild, he requested a trade at the deadline. No chance management would use a significant player and asset in Staal to reacquire a 13th forward who doesn't want to play in Minnesota. Before you make teams on this site actually think for a second. Trades in the NHL need to benefit each team equally. You're fired.

Taking Kane
No thanks on Kane. Michael Russo (Wild beat writer for fans who don't know) reported in his podcast that Dumba is the most likely trade candidate. Dumba will fetch a bigger return than Brodin. Plus with Brodin we know what we are getting from him and he has term left on his deal. I am a strong believer in Reilly and I think he can step in for Dumba to be that offensive presence, although the physical game is not there. I think all the Wild are interested in getting is cheap, ELC players or high picks in return for Dumba. There is no need to create a jam of forwards, especially those with big dollars and long term. Overall no thanks on Kane, although he could bring a lacking element to this team... it just doesn't make sense at this time IMO.

Minny fans, is this even close? COMMENT
Quantity doesn't equal quality. Seems like a bunch of players fighting for a roster spot (in Minnesota) and a mid 1st round pick in a (relatively) weak draft. Sure there will probably be a player(s) in the mid to late 1st round but nothing to help Minnesota win now. There will be much better offers available for Dumba, but in reality Minnesota would like to trade Brodin much more than Dumba. I wouldn't expect Dumba anywhere else than Minnesota next year unless a deal blows them away.

TJmac22's Vancouver Deal Pt.2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>playercoachreggiedunlop</b></div><div>HAHAHAHA a little tinkering to TJmac22 wouldve been enough that trade is laughable now.</div></div>
Laughable? Brodin and Dumba are bonafide top 4 defenseman in this league (top 2 on a lot of teams) and former top 10 picks. Pominville has some of the best possession and Corsi numbers for the minutes he plays in the league and can easily pot 40 points a year even as a 3rd or 4th liner (just has a bad cap hit).
Markus Granlund is a 3rd liner at best on the Wild. Virtanen, former 6OA pick has played 65 games in the NHL and has 14 points and almost spent all of last year in the AHL. Juolevi is a former 5OA has yet to play a game in the league and is slated to return to the OHL next year. 5OA this year is a shot in the dark.
So no it's not really laughable. Vancouver is receiving 3 players who will easily make a large contribution to Vancouver starting next season while Minnesota is receiving a 3rd liner in Granlund and 3 MAYBE's. Maybe Minnesota adds a Tuch or Haula or Greenway, but this deal is far from laughable.

I do too. Just hard for a trade with that big of names happening within the Division.</div></div>
I was thinking the same that it would be hard to trade within division. It's not necessarily impossible though. We've seen some pretty big names tossed around the central before. Sharp to Dallas, Ladd to Chicago (albeit a rental). Of course those aren't half the magnitude to this trade but Colorado could be a very realistic trade partner this offseason.

Jones might make the NHL as a bottom-6 player, he's not a goal scorer, Wild have better prospects of their own. Puljujarvi has done nothing yet, he's interesting and has potential (Will he be better than Nino is now, time will tell). mid 1st is meh this year. The Wild gave theirs up because it's a weak draft and they have some decent depth coming up.
1 for 1 Dumba or Nino for Puljujarvi is probably about even. 1st+Jones doesn't get the other one. Wild are taking all the risk 2 young, team controlled, quality NHL players for 3 question marks.</div></div>
Caleb Jones is a defenseman, FYI.

I'm assuming the 1st is supposed to be a 2017, not 2018 but this format won't let us select 2017 picks for some reason. If that's the case, the Wild could get a much higher 1st round pick for Dumba. You're on the right track but this particular deal is a no. Dumba is a former top 10 pick and still very young and already has a lot of experience. Gonna take a top prospect or top 7-8 pick in this years draft to pry him, or else Wild will trade Brodin.

IF forced to choose between Nino or Granny
Signing an ineffective Ryan White makes little sense with Tuch, Kunin, Schroeder and Graovac already under the cap. That Hanzal/White trade was arguably the worst trade in franchise history and everyone would love to just move on. If your signing either of them... I'm signing Hanzal but there is no cap space and he wants long term. The only player I'm giving long term in this UFA class is Oshie.
Plus, Tavares is a good player don't get me wrong... but with Eriksson Ek, Kunin coming as future 1,2 centers I doesn't make a lot of sense to create a logjam especially with Koivu being a UFA next year. Wild need scoring on the wings, not more defensive centers. Brass also wants Coyle at center long term from what I've heard from Russo.
