As much as I like the Canucks players being shipped out in these two deals, the returns do fit the direction the team should be going. Might be able to squeeze an extra pick out of the Leafs though.

I agree. I'm not really on board with moving Garland specifically due to the fact he is a quality top 6 piece locked in at a reasonable cap hit for 4 more years after this one but if the Canucks are really serious about moving him, this seems like a reasonable return. As for motte and schenn I do like them but ultimately they are expendable pieces. The way i viewed it was motte for the second and a swap between Dermott and Schenn who are both locked in on deals through next season. Dermott is the younger piece that can play either right or left side but due to the fact Schenn makes 800,000 next season and Dermott makes 1.5, its not completely unreasonable to squeeze another late round pick
