Out of curiosity is that because of Alex being in the trade?

Not really, he’s had a quietly good year in the ahl but still hasn’t made the jump up. I’d like to see what he has at that level.

It’s more the return. Middleton has a ton of interest and I don’t see the sharks moving him for less than a 2nd. He will be cheaper to resign than Reilly’s current contract and the sharks already have Simek and Vlasic under contract unfortunately. Not a fan of Senyshyn either.

Hmmm ok - Middleton is more bottom pairing but fights. Was curious as to the logic as I don't think any team would part a 2nd rounder for a 26 year old D man with 55 games experience.

He has been their best LD this year by a bit. Played really well with Karlsson and Burns at different times. He’s an RFA at the end of the year and will be cheap to resign. If there’s not a 2nd coming back then I’d rather keep him. There is rumored to be more than 3 teams interest; Boston, Tampa and St Louis are known but was also reported others have interest as well.

Yeah - LD and someone with toughness, which he fits both those seem to be on the top of the list for a few teams (more so the ones that don't want to pay the Chychrun, Lindholm, Chariot asking prices etc) I do doubt a 2nd will be moved, but you are right that the Sharks have more value for him and that the role he fills would need something good or worthwhile for them to say yes.

Yeah its not impossible for them to get a 2nd, That said Barclay had like 200 games of experience and 22 games of playoff experience, not to mention everyone and their dog thought that was a severe over payment and Bob McKenzie almost fell out of his chair. Not to mention he was then traded for a 7th round pick to the Rangers.......so suffice to say they over paid.

I do agree that the value Middleton brings to the Sharks roster means they will want an overpayment for him to make it worth their while or they would be best to just keep him. But on a whole a 2nd round is steep price to pay for someone who is 26 and has 55 total games of NHL experience with no playoff experience.....that means is a depth play.
