Description
The TOR and PIT trades are pretty similar if you think about it. TOR is dumping $5.8M in cap. PIT is dumping $5.5M in cap, but Mrazek has an extra year being dumped. PIT needs to solve their scoring depth and Kubalik can do help. TOR needs to solve their problems on the back end...both in net and defense.

HE'S THE CURRENT WINNER! as it today he holds that title. Literally today.

And? He wasnt even the best goalie last year when he won and he's not even close to that this year.
Go read about aging curves. Old goalies with huge contracts not playing super great do not get good value in trades.
Go find a list of goalies that got 1st rounders and tell me which one maf is like

I think the TOR trade is fair, but all leafs fans lose their minds when they see they are giving Knies or a 1st without getting JT Miller or Chychrun back so they won't like it. I think the Pens trade is pretty lopsided towards us, don't see them doing that

Yeah, super crazy that we'd rather use our first round pick(s) and prospect(s) to get a skilled player with a good contract with term rather than a goalie with an expiring contract.

Carpenter is a 12th man fwd. despite his penalty killing ability’s you gotta remember what he is. I would say his value is around a 5th/6th round pick so a 5 and a 6 isn’t bad, but the value could be less while still being reasonable In my opinion

It's not that the attempt isn't worth the post or trying, it's just unrealistic. 2 years of Jake Muzzin cost the #22 OA, and two solid prospects. Church has 3.5 years...4 playoff runs in him and he's a younger/better player. It'll be at least twice what Muzzin cost. Not the #30 OA pick and Knies.

I didn't say it would just cost Knies and a first round, they would be a starting point. The point is that TOR would be entertaining those types of trades rather than using those same pieces for an expiring goaltender.

That's very fair. MAF wouldn't be a rental in this scenario though. I think he extends for 2 years $3.5M. I think he wants to win and you can still likely sign Campell if MAF signs for $3.5M. That's a HECK of a tandem.

That's a bit of a different story, not sure I want to give up both Knies and a first in that scenario though. Maybe a different prospect and take CDH and his half retained out?

Kyle and Kyle are out of the box thinkers...I'm hoping the MAF signs an extension in CHI, BUT then Kyle (Davidson) retains 50% on the entire contract. maybe it's a 2 year $4M deal, but CHI retains $2M for the next two years and 50% this year. thoughts?

If Fleury signs a two year $4M total extension, the Leafs wouldn't need the retention. Especially if Mrazek is going the other way. Would just need the retention on the current $7M contract.

Could just sign the extension after the trade is completed. I think they would get away with that.

If CHI retains 50% then MAF's cap hit this year is $3.5M and $2M for the next two. I think there's something that can be done here. There's nothing in the rules that prevents an extension and there's nothing in the rules that prevents retention of 50%. YEAH, it'll look funny, but LTIR is used to circumvent the cap all the time these days. I don't think Brandon Pridham is afraid to throw the rule book at the NHL commissioner at all.

nah, just super crazy you all seem to think Engvall, Dermott, Holl, Mikhiyev, (formerly) ritchie, and mrazek are worth anything. The amount of posts I see for like Holl+Engvall+2022 1st for JT miller are absurd

either knies or 1st is even fair. both is overpayment.

probably a better trade is the same thing except

mrazek + dermott or holl + 2nd round <-> decaan and maf (both retained 50%)

This post right here is exatcly why everyone says leafs fans are dilusional. Take out MAF and Dehaan from that offer and the hawks still decline
