Description
do the Leafs wait until post-dead-line to put Liljegren back into the lineup, or do they just trade Holl or Dermott? Or will Dzingel get waived (unlikely option)? I'm asking cuz of cap concerns, cuz Liljegren should be playing in the NHL.

The questions that Dubas has on his mind too I bet. I just don't think he is done, feels like so many moveable pieces, and great deals like tonight's just waiting to be made!

I would rather see Liljegren in the NHL, but he has to play so I think the AHL is best for him right now. No need to trade any Leaf Dman. Next season the Leafs with Liljegren have just seven NHL Dmen.

I think Lyubushkin can fill Lilijgrens role well enough that it makes sense to send him down for now. It doesn’t seem wise to trade defensive depth when their value is at their absolute lowest

Hasn't Liljegren already played 4 years in the AHL?

Dermott or Holl is likely traded by the deadline, opening up a spot for Liljegren (my guess is Dermott moved). Doesn’t matter that Toronto only has 7 defenceman signed for next year. They have a cap problem/roster problem to fix and it’s all or nothing this season. Depth defenceman can EASILY be signed as UFA’s in the off-season to fill out more roster spots, so they’re fine in that department.

Yes. But take a look at the Dmen taking around his 18th position in the 2017, Liljegren is on the same trajectory as those players.
HIs first year in the AHL, he was actually a junior age, "on loan" from his Swedish junior team. Then he had two years with injuries, and last season was interrupted with Covid shortened season.
Yea, it would nice if had played more NHL games to get a better read on him,,,,but I think he's going to be a solid NHLer.

Liljegren has played very well for the Marlies. I don't know what else he can do at the AHL level.

You're probably right. But the Leafs are "going for it", so going with the more experienced NHLers seems to be their plan this season. And with 30 more regular season games, and hopefully 24 playoff games, there are going to be injuries to at least one Dman, so Liljegren will be a call up and even be playing in the NHL this season. If Keefe figures Liljegren is better than Holl or Dermot this season, Liljegren will be playing at some time If Lubyshin is as good as so many say on CapFriendly, the Leafs got a steal of a trade,,,,,just getting rid of Ritchie was good enough for me for the pick the Leafs traded.
