I can't see the Flyers getting a 1st and a 2nd for Giroux as part of a package on a rental. Jost for sure, and a mid-level prospect might work though. Honestly, with Kadri likely out the door this offseason, I wouldn't surprise me to see the Avs push their assets into something back with term (ie JT Miller, Conor Garland, etc.)

Jost and a Mid-Level Prospect. Okay. Name said Mid-Level Prospect. I seem be getting stuck on Untouchable Prospects and A Level Prospects that are also untouchable.
Also, Giroux would probably be more likely to re-sign in Colorado reasonably if the prospects of winning remain high. This might be far more appealing to trade a 1st round pick for since Colorado could control the term more on Giroux than the other players you named that don't move the needle as much. Garland and JT Miller are nice players but they pretty much score what they produce. Giroux playing 2nd line level players and not targeted as the primary player to shutdown by opponents will score significantly more.

Overall seems to be a fair return for Giroux but I would say Colorado would have to have an agreement in place to resign Giroux if they are giving up that much, if not the return would be significantly less

Actually it wouldn't be significantly less. Also, if you want an agreement with Giroux on a contract before the deal is done the cost is significantly more.

Not sure Colorado can afford to extension Giroux though. A player with term and reasonable AAV just seems like something the Avs would prefer based on their cap situation, both current and future. When I say mid-level prospects, I am talking about someone like Shane Bowers, or perhaps the rights to Tyler Weiss. Also, I would consider that Giroux doesn't do anything exceptionally well except perhaps lead, and the Avs are deep with that.

I'd love to get Miller, problem is that he's gonna be worth A LOT.

Ok firstly forget the 'untouchable' label, it's a myth. If Gretzky can be traded anyone can, and it's a word bandied around too often (and yes, I have used it myself on occasion). It merely signifies guys who it would have to be a hell of an overpay to move or simply aren't going to be in the discussion. If we're talking prospects or prospects just breaking into the NHL that's Newhook & Byram as far as this trade goes. Beyond those two at forward the Avs have only one 'Blue chip' or A level forward prospect imo (and all of this is opinions) and that's Olausson who they likely aren't going to move unless for some kind of significantly bigger deal. Likewise they have only one goalie prospect of note in Annunen so he isn't going to be on the table either, even though he isn't an A prospect. As far as the D goes they have two definite A level prospects in my opinion. Barron & Helleson. Both are righties which basically automatically increases their value as pretty much everyone wants them. Some regard Helleson more highly, some regard Barron more highly. After that there is Behrens who a lot of people are very high on as well who is a lefty. Easier to replace however so he might be available in the right deal. I personally doubt Barron or Helleson would be. In goal neither of the Avs other prospects are likely to be too tantalising. On D likewise after Behrens there isn't all that much. Forwards are the ones Colorado have a plethora of and a few I'd call B level or good downwards. They're the more likely trade chips for a rental. Ranta, Kaut, Bowers etc. I suspect PHI will want a first and although the Avs don't have one until '23 that probably works in PHI's favour as the '23 draft is expected to be better than '22. If they want a first it's unlikely they get one of the prospects above B level unless possibly Behrens, and as the need in PHI is for righties rather than lefties and they're reputedly high on Ranta, then he seems more likely. For me, I'd offer the first in '23, Ranta and Compher, with JTC being mainly to even salary but he isn't a cap dump. He has good value. Jost doesn't work on the salary side of things. If the Flyers really want a RHD then it's either/or on Helleson/Barron for me but that pick that comes with them isn't going to be a first. Maybe even as low as a third. If it swung the deal I'd maybe even throw in another lower level prospect with the 1st, Ranta & Compher. That's my take on it for what it's worth. Hope that at least gives some idea as to how the prospects are viewed by this Avs fan anyway.
