Ottawa is in a position to buy. They have a lot of cap space, a developing roster, and lots of cap space to fill their needs.

Rule: No calling up players with no NHL experience (sorry Jake Sanderson)

First is the RFA's, all can be bridged except there are two I need to talk about.

Brannstrom is an interesting player, he's good but at the moment the sample size is too small for a long-term extension. I'm going to give him a bridge that will pay him likely what Melnyk will deem acceptable.

Now, Josh Norris, he has played well this year and needs to be paid, I want to give him long-term money but there is no way he gets more than Batherson. Melnyk is salivating at having two top six players locked up for less than 5 million dollars each.

Next up, Del Zotto. He is clearly at an impasse with Ottawa, at this point they should take what they can get and I think an LD desperate team in Washington will pay a late pick for Del Zotto

Now all that's needed is a top 4 D, backup goalie, and depth D. Leddy had a down year but is worth a risk (and free-agent D are limited this year)

Now could Ottawa go for a Claude Giroux or another big free agent? Yes, but Melnyk probably won't let that happen and they have developing players who will likey fill in those roles
