Trouba is not an 8M/yr Dman...but he's a bargain at 4M...that said, I'm sure many fans wouldn't mind moving him...but no way is the organization eating 1/2 his salary and CAP hit over the next 4 years.

What would Trouba cost in the offseason if Rangers wanted to move him?

Going to have to add quite a lot to get Greenway. Carter is better right now but he's 12 years older than Greenway and could retire any year now. Greenway is just entering his prime and is an RFA after this season

Tough guess here. Although not worth his cap hit, he has played well this year and is a big part of the locker room- so I don't think they are even considering options here in terms of moving. He also has a suffocating NMC. Ironically, PIT might be one team he would waive for due to Cup chances with Crosby/Malkin and I'm guessing Pittsburgh would still work for his wife (medical residency). There's just no way though NYR are eating that much CAP and salary over 4 years...my guess is maybe they look to move him in 2024. This is when his movement clause loosens a little and gives more time to fill his spot from a player developed within. For now though, if NYR were offered a deal with between 0 and 1M retained they would have to consider approaching Trouba to make this happen- without spending much effort trying to figure out what should come back- I can't see any team jumping on this.

I like Trouba, and I think I mil is way too much for him. Maybe 4.5 or 5 mil is what he should be making. What is Trouba worth with 3 mil retained?

But I was asking this as a Buffalo fan, we need an experienced top 4 RD and could easily eat up his entire contract.

I agree with the value you're placing on him...just don't think NYR will retain enough to meet that valuation...but hey- make an offer!

I would say Zucker, Hallander, 2nd (same package) for Trouba (3 mil retained)

Ability to get out from under his entire contract after this season is something they would have to consider...what's it worth to them? All depends on how they view the development of Schneider and Nils the rest of this year. Best case: they are both ready for 2D and 3D roles next year...I could see NYR letting Trouba go (assuming he's OK with going to BUF) for a middle round pick- seeing a lot of value in the CAP savings. But if NYR are not confident that Schneider and Nils could hold down these positions next year- while enabling the team to be a legit contender- then BUF would really have to pony up. My guess would be a package involving a 1st and/or 2nd +. And unfortunately, I see the second scenario as more likely. Hey- just spitballing here...since there's been no talks of moving him I have very little to base this on- so I'm probably way off! LOL...Besides- there is talk of moving Nils as soon as TDL to fill other holes...would be interested to hear comments from the BUF perspective!

Not sure where Hallander stands in his development- a key factor here- because while dropping 5M in CAP for Trouba, they gain 5.5M back from Zucker. The're just not doing that- especially after claiming they HAD to move Buch for cap reasons -to take back a player not as good for virtually the same money a year later!

Therefore, it is difficult for me to understand the value of the Trouba. Not many teams in the league can take over his entire contract, Buffalo is one of them. I wouldn't pay too much for him, he's a good player, but within reason. It's unlikely that Drury would take the risk of trading Trouba and over to RD Schneider and Lundqvist, but you could sign a cheaper replacement Trouba for a couple of years while Schneider and Lundqvist gain experience, then you would have more money to increase the attack.

If there is a deal here to be made after the season, and NYR have their contingencies set up- then I'm all for making a few moves which will keep them progressing as contenders- while having a little more Cap to sprinkle around the roster...I just don't think Drury is looking at it this way- I believe they see him as a leader and building block to build around, who they want around at least until 2024- and maybe even beyond...even at his 8M cap hit.

Drury would laugh and hang up. Trouba's NMC wouldn't even matter.
