Because they want to clear cap space for next year to sign Campbell.

Yes, Edmonton will pay you to take your cap dump, injury prone goalie with awful stats. Oh and we'll retain. Riiiiiiight.

Better to just leave you in cap hell and throw a big offer at Jack Campbell if you can't sign him before free agency.
