Using expansion as an asset

Description
Deals made prior to the expansion draft. Instead of losing Manson to vegas, they trade him for an exempt Petan and a 3rd as well as Chiarot.

NJD are in need of a rebuild and they opt to get a solid top 4 RHD in Myers, while getting a young goalie prospect not yet in his prime such as Schenider. This is also based on Myers coming back and demonstrating he's healthy.

NYI just wants to move Halak so to get back a pick that was traded to acquire Manson, the Jets take on Halaks salary as a backup to Schneider.

Expansion Protect:
Toby waives his NMC
Buff, Trouba, Manson, Scheif, Wheeler, Little, Perrault, Lowry, Dano, Armia, Schenider

If Vegas takes Halak, get a UFA goalie, if they take Copp, oh well, if they take Enstrom, oh well.
Of course you could always make a deal where vegas gets a pick to take the player we want them too like...Take Stuart and get a 2nd which vegas Might jump at because they're building

Schneider is one of the best goalies in the league. Why is NJ trading him and what makes you think they'd take Myers and Hellebucyk in exchange for him? If they are rebuilding they'll ask for your 1st round pick this year and a prospect like Roslovic minimum. Not Myers who your trading because we all know why and Hellebucyk who is being pumped up to be a star but hasn't done jack yet in Winnipeg. He may be a decent starter but technically so are guys like Elliot, Varlamov and Greiss. Those guys are a dime a dozen, especially this year of all years.

Schneider is bonafide #1 that you can win a cup with.

I disagree, I think there might be a couple of tweaks to be made, but I think they're all quite solid and realistic, not to mention - exactly what Winnipeg needs. However, we've all seen Chevvy work, and its a lot slower than this sadly.

Which the Devils don't project to do in the window of his prime - at this pace he'll be where Lundqvist is right now with the Rangers. Pushing, pushing, pushing but its too late

Exactly so if you are rebuilding, get the pieces for rebuilding. Not lesser pieces. Get 1st round picks and prospects. Myers does nothing for them now and in the future.

No but Hellebuyck DOES. If he turns out the way many think he will, they'll have bought another 4+ years of potential at a lower cost as well as impoving their defence. And if we add a pick, who knows what that pick will be in 4+ years

you're not seeing the big picture. I agree a pick should be added. a 2nd, a third, hell even a first if you're the Jets though that depends where they end up drafting. Still if you're the devils Schneider will most likely be in decline when their starting to compete/contend again in 4-5 years so getting another shot at a young potential franchise goaltender would be worth the risk. That and they're also getting Myers to help their D whom they could flip for more picks if they really wanted with the price of RHD these days.

If you're the Jets this makes you instantly a contender for years to come!

Then why not keep him? He is going be that guy but just not for you? The core of your team is young so it shouldn't be a problem. Plus the thing is its Winnipeg that is saying Hellebuyck will be the guy they think he is. Not everyone else. The kid has potential I give him that and may be a good goalie but its far from a certainty.

Well if you start adding to the trade that changes the complexion of the trade. The deal is Myers and Hellebuyck fro Schneider. Throw in this years 1st rounder and then that's a different story. I get the logic behind it and I agree with it. That's what I preach. The thing is your both looking at this from Jets perspectives. Myers is 27 and signed for 2 more years. Hellebuyck is a promising goalie by no means a sure thing. What is NJ really doing this trade for of its not doing exactly what you are asking them to do? They would trade him to start a rebuild. You trade one of your most prized assets for a top 4 with some issues and a young goalie who may or may not be the goalie of the future......

Look at your last statement. "If you're the Jets this makes you instantly a contender for years to come". Why is that? A team that is bottom 2-8 in the league the past little while instantly becomes a contender with the addition of Schneider. I think that says more about Schneider. If he makes you that much better, than you'll have to add more than Myers and Hellebuyck to get him.

I haven't even mentioned the fact that he's signed for 5 more years at a very reasonable cap hit for a star goalie. I agree Winnipeg should absolutely target this guy but you'll have to sweeten the pot more to get it done.
