How though? Eichel fetched a top prospect, first rounder, and top 6 forward. He's under contract for 5 more years and is a younger, better player than Hertl. How is 25 games of Hertl worth almost what Jack Eichel went for? just curious.

There was 2, maybe 3 teams that could realistically acquire Eichel.

Hertl with retention, there would be 10-15 teams that would be calling with offers.

Eichel was also injured which hurt his value. And basically everyone knows the Sabres lost that trade. Idk why every keeps on comparing the Eichel trade to every other trade
Dvorak trade is more comparable for Hertl. Hertl is better but Dvorak is younger and has more term. Dvorak got a 1st + 2nd. Hertl should get 1st + B prospect

Eichel literally had risky surgery on his neck, was known to want out and few teams were actually in on him. Drives his cost way down.

Have to have an actual good prospect coming back. Niemela, amirov, hirvonen…
