What would be a fair price for Connor Brown?

Also, why are his numbers declining like that?

he is scoring at a better pace (albeit .01PPG) than last year

I have said similar to the Coleman return...Brown 1/2 retained for a prospect like Johnston/Bourque/Stankoven + 1st

Which numbers are declining?

Connor Brown is an Even Strength scorer, he needs to play his matchup role and PK to perform. Top-6 time actually doesn't help him

As the previous poster said, a Blake Coleman like return

But I really doubt he'd be traded this season as he has another year left, they will want to re-sign him

Like I often say about Brown :

Ottawa needs Connor Brown EVEN MORE than other teams. If they want to get out of the rebuild, they need to ADD quality veterans, not subtract them

4 goals this year after 25 games vs 21 after 56 games last year.

We want something like this:

https://www.capfriendly.com/trades/players/blake-coleman

So, that means:

1. A lottery protected 1st round pick

2. Dallas' choice of either Wyatt Johnston, Mavrick Bourque or Thomas Harley.

And Ottawa offers to retain 50% of Connor Brown's salary.

I hope this helps.

Oh ok... well he's not really a goal scorer. He had a nice stretch last season proving he can also score goals but he is an all-around player, a 200 ft player

I will copy/paste some facts that I have shared for months (see below). This will give you a much better idea of what Connor Brown brings

A player like Connor Brown is much harder to replace than a 2nd line winger. Look at these stats (2019-20 + 2020-21) :

- Among Brown's 19:17 TOI/GP in Ottawa, 2:45 were on the PK and only 1:32 on the PP. His overall dZS% has been 62.6% which is extremely high. Simply put, he is mostly used as a shutdown forward or on a matchup line.

- Despite this defensive usage, he has been 61st for Even Strenght Points among NHL players since 2019-20 (not including 2021-22 yet). Look at the names around him on that list, they aren't all as good overall :

http://www.nhl.com/stats/skaters?reportType=season&seasonFrom=20192020&seasonTo=20202021&gameType=2&filter=gamesPlayed,gte,1&sort=evPoints&page=1&pageSize=50

Facts summary :

- He has scored at a 24 goals/50 pts pace in Ottawa (127 GP)
- He was 2nd in takeaways last season (behind Mark Stone of course)
- He received Selke votes (17th)
- Total beast on the PK : often gets more scoring chances than the opposition
- used heavily in a defensive deployment (34.0 oZS% vs 66.0 dZS%) but still provides good offense

His speed, non-stop motor and flawless work ethic is a beautiful thing to watch. With only a 3.6 AAV for 2 more seasons... way too valuable for Ottawa and they love him a lot. Any team who has Brown should use him in a similar way that Ottawa has been
