Description
Saw a team posted about a number one C. Taking this idea and running with it (I do have scissors in my hand too).
I NEVER like the idea of trading Giroux and IF we were ever to do so the return has to match, I feel it does, altho for the Blues it may create a hole they'd need to fill.

Not to sure on values but this was a fun one to create and play with.

3rd line that can produce points and a true 4th line.

I think that if the Flyers trade Giroux, its going to be for top forward prospects, not another defenseman. There is also no way that COL accepts that deal based purely on the fact that they are going to take Patrick with their pick.

    1. The only reason that trade is made is for Duchene and the Schenn deal - Duchene is better 5v5 and a better skater, more speed. So therefore, trading for that top pair RHD DOES work in this layout.

    2. Why?

Avs turn that trade down a 100 times out of a 100.

They wont trade Duchene for that, there is nothing they benefit from this move and it does not help solve their issues. Avs will only trade Duchene if a Dman is coming back, not for another Mid 20s Center.

So they take the less prestigious name player in a trade and what...still no Dman, this makes 0 sense for them thats why

1.) I understand that Duchene is better than Schenn is basically all metrics. However, trading a player like Giroux should either be for forward prospects or a player like Galchenyuk. We don't need to trade for a player like Alex Pietrangelo when we can sign a guy like Shattenkirk. Or we could trade for a RHD of lesser skill than Pietrangelo that can be part of our plans for 2 or 3 years, until we have all of our defensive prospects ready.

2.) Exactly what coga16 said. This doesn't solve any problems for Colorado. They could get more for Duchene than just Schenn straight up.

I would have to assume Sanheim would have to be shipped out from the Flyers to make the Avs talk Duchene trade. My guess would be Sanheim, Cousins and a pick would be the initial pieces talked about.

I have mentioned this in a few other posts but realistically Avs are 2-3 years out from being a complete team. They have a lot of good 21-22 year old pieces right now however they need to wait till they mature. So getting guys in that 20-21 year old range is what they will be or should be looking at. So they all grow together. Landy and Mack will be the Vets at 26 and 24 in a few seasons. So realistically guys like Duchene, Barrie, and Varly could be shipped out to sort of "reload the deck". They dont have a terrible core just they mismanaged the pieces around them so they need to get younger and add new pieces around that younger portion of the roster to take them to the next stage.

MacK, Rants, Zads, Compher, Jost, this years Top 3 Pick. That will be the new core and all under 22 years of age next year. You build around with Landy, Johnson...maybe Barrie, and what they get from the Duchene trade. I think they will be in a better spot long term if they do that

Moving Giroux should not be for prospects as the centerpiece of the deal. It needs to be for a young player that already has some type of experience in the NHL. We can't afford to take a flier on a guy that might never make it. Needs to be a deal like the one the Flyers got form the Kings when we got Simmonds (two years in NHL) and Schenn (top prospect in the Kings system). That would be ideal...
