NSH declines. The picks are more valuable to them than carrying Barrie as a #6-7 defenseman, at that cap hit until 2024.

barrie is still an upgrade on the nashville right side as they're thin down there. He also provides more offensive from the back end which the team could use.

He's not an upgrade over Carrier or Fabbro, so he'd be 3rd pair at best for now. Assuming Myers has worked on his perceived issues to the team's satisfaction, he'll be on that bottom pair next season. If he isn't, NSH can re-sign Benning or another vet to a one year deal for a lot less than Barrie makes.

NSH's back end isn't nearly as thin as EDM's, and Josi alone is providing more goal scoring than all of EDM's defensemen combined. The Oilers need Barrie a lot more than the Preds do.

didn't realize carrier was doing that well for nashville so it makes sense to me that it wouldn't work. In that case barrie would be moved to a different team for a similar package.
