Why not? Makar, Toews, Girard and Byram are locked in the top-4 for the next three years, so why not deal from a position of strength. The price will, and should be high for Giroux.

Barron is big mobile and a right shot. He is a premium prospect. You don’t trade premium prospects for rentals that’s awful asset management. You consider trading him for JT Miller who has another year on his contract. In addition you have a guy you can break into the 3rd pairing on an elc and is a cost controlled asset, that potentially assumes Toews role when he becomes a FA. Plus why does COL need another forward, they are leading the league in scoring?

This is the first Giroux to COL deal that looks close to fair value but i still wouldnt pay that price personally for a one year rental
