Washington is in win now mode, why would they give up one of their best defencemen for an unproven rookie? And then why would they give up a second line winger in his prime for a guy whos about to retire. Horrilble, Horrible deal...
I would say that Alzner is their 3rd best defenseman behind Carlson and Niskanen. No better or no worse. Don't overvalue Alzner. Dumoulin is ACTUALLY one of the pens best defensive prospects. Yes, Johansson is a second line winger, but not on Washington. He will likely be on their 3rd line and he is overplayed for a 3rd liner. He can actually be a second line winger on Pittsburgh. Also, don't act like Kunitz is 45 years old. Yes, his career is concluding but he has 2 or 3 decent years left and don't forget about the rest of the trade. There is a guy by the name of Beau Bennett in there and who knows how his career will play out.
918: By your logic, the Pens wouldn't make this trade, but in reality, Dan is correct. And Scuds, seems like the Pens can't give him away, and no one wants to take on long term unproductive high priced guys. See what happens when 5 players take half the cap space.
Sorry Banks, just teaching the young-ens forum etiquette. Also, didn't know these were mediated which is assuring. Thank you.
You're welcome, there are a few mods watching the forums, for now we are trying to keep the forums not too strict, but if thread starts to get out of hand we will interject.

I see all my forums were mediated by you Banks lol. Might I ask where you guys are located by the way. Just curious.
We are located in the Eastern Ontario - Ottawa region.
A Senators or Canadiens fan I see. :o . Was asking cause if close by I would submit a resume but that's a little far for me. Thank you for filling the CapGeek void. Was very very happy when I found this site.
Have to agree with Dan on this one. In terms of current ability and potential, Alzner > Dumoulin and Johansson > Bennett and it's not even close. Don't forget Bennett and Dumoulin are both 23 years old. Calling them "prospects" at this point is kind of inaccurate. And Washington doesn't really have a need for Kunitz in it's top 6/9 that would justify the downgrade within the rest of the trade.
Pens fans on here seem to really overvalue their younger players. Being a top prospect in the Pens system is still pretty average by most standards (except Pouliot of course).

Pens fans which I am seem to overvalue their veterans Kunitz and Scuderi.
