I think our forwards have been streaky. Sid is finally starting to go, and Rust, Guentzel and Rodrigues have been solid. I would say the rest of the top 9 has been inconsistent. Kapanen and Carter are probably the next 2 best.. Zucker and Heinen need to pick it up.
Our GM said that he does not anticipate moving any picks/prospects, since he wants to build up our prospect pool. We are also tight on cap space, so making a move wont be easy. The guys who I could see us moving with cap are Zucker, Pettersson and Matheson. Zucker and Matheson dont carry much value, so we will need to add on in any deal we make. I also dont think moving Pettersson is the wise move right now.
I know I have made this trade a bunch, but acquiring Kane makes so much sense to me. Yes, his attitude is a worry, but I think the leadership group we have can really help. I also think getting a 3rd team to retain is a wise move, as we would get Kane for $1.75M. If ever we dont want him, we could easily bury him in the AHL, which will cost us $600k on the cap hit.
SJ wants to get rid of him. Their options are buying him out or trading him at 50%. Their best bet is moving him at 50% because it will cost them less, and they could get a return. I also dont expect them to ask for much in return, which is great for us.
As for the third team, I think OTT makes sense. They have wanted a top 9 forward, and Heinen fits that bill. He can also be flipped at the deadline for a 3rd/4th round pick. They get a goalie prospect, since their netminders have been struggling and they get a late pick.
I also tried to balance the lines, so we have firepower every time we are on the ice.
No reason for Ottawa to lock into a 1.75mil hit for three seasons past this one for such a weak return. Three things they very firmly do NOT need are depth forwards, goalie prospects and late round picks.

What kind of return do you expect then? Ottawa was in the market for a top 9 player, so that is why I included Heinen.. All their goalies have also struggled, so adding one to the pipeline can do no harm. I get the late pick doesnt hold much value, but it is an extra prospect coming in the org nonetheless.

Ottawa has alot of top end goalie prospects, they just need time now so there isn't much of a point for another, I don't see ottawa being the 3rd team in this deal
