Description
Apparently before the season started Horvat told his agent and management that if things don't improve, the chances of him re-signing will be slim. I would prefer not to trade him, but after this start what can you do?

I'd argue that Horvat is an upgrade considering what he does on a considerably weaker team, though Kadri has been playing very well this year. Main reasons for adding Kadri if you went after Horvat from the Avs PoV is cap, keeping VAN competitive, positional replacement, and the fact you're going to have to add as the team chasing the trade in most cases. That said you could argue that Newhook and a first alone might get it done if the Canucks looked to tank and rebuild and flip Kadri elsewhere.

Im just saying you probably aren't adding much. Which part of Horvat's game would you say is better than Kadri's?

and what would you add to Kadri to get the deal done? Barron and a 1st?

Kadri would pretty much have to be involved for cap purposes plus positional replacement or it wouldn't work for the Avs. Horvat is basically an upgraded version of Kadri, and it's merely about balancing cap, keeping VAN semi-competitive, plus Kadri would be gone the following year if you didn't want him or could flip him somewhere at the deadline for a pick or something. If VAN went full rebuild then Pettersson & Newhook would possibly be a great future 1/2 punch. Byram is arguably one of the last pieces the Avs would be likely to give up, injuries or not.

That's true, Vancouver could retain and flip Kadri for more picks/prospects, but I thought the Avs would try to keep him to bolster their center depth for a run this year. MacKinnon - Horvat - Kadri is as good as gets and would be an answer to Vegas landing Eichel. Maybe someone like Jost could come back for cap purposes?

Likelihood is Compher would be the odd man out, maybe Jost. You're right though that would be as deep a 1,2,3 at C as you'd get for a cup run.

Discipline for one! tears of joy (albeit Horvat hasn't been in the play offs that much to see whether he could get suspended).

That aside, he just seems all round a little better. Nothing major that sticks out. As I said before in my counter offer. Kadri, Newhook & 2nd. I know Canucks fans seem to have something of a hard on for Barron on here, but he's unlikely to be an option as he's pencilled in for EJ's replacement I reckon. Short term replacement to keep VAN competitive, long term number 2 for Pettersson and a second round pick in a good draft.

An alternative offer might be Compher, Jost, Newhook for Dickinson & Horvat, or something in that kind of area I'm thinking.

Ya I mean Horvat might be better. He is more disciplined that for sure. But the Canucks def don't want 31 yr old Kadri when they clearly need to retool, collect prospect and picks for a season or two. I don't think moving Horvat would make any sense. He's a good 2nd line C.

Canucks are so desperate to get young RD or prospect that Barron comes up a lot. Colorado is in win now mode though. Barron is not helping this team for a few seasons. MIller could put this team over the top and the only reason Van would trade him (he is our best player) is because he clearly won't be resigning with us because our organization is a complete joke.
