Description
Offence isn't the most pressing need by a long shot, but this looks like a really exciting team to watch. And I didn't break up the great 3rd line either, I just moved them down to the 4th and created a new 3rd line. The is the best offensive team in the league by far.

The Kakko trade is more of a summer move rather than a deadline deal, but I'm beginning to think he needs a change of scenery so I threw it on here to start a conversation. It's interesting to think about as there are parallels between Kakko and Puljujarvi. Many fans on this site were calling Puljujarvi a bust 2 years into his career and wouldn't have given up a 1st for him, yet Puljujarvi was better than Kakko at least by 5v5 metrics: similar G/60, better P/60, more shots/60, higher individual xG/60, better corsi, fenwick, shot, goal, expected goal, scoring chance and high danger corsi metrics too. It's early yet, but if Kakko doesn't have a breakout season he's in some danger next summer IMO.

One thing about the kakko trade I’m not a fan of is extension talks. I think that can go a lot smoother with Mcloed over kakko given the salary constraints will have. Plus I think Mcloed could end up filling a more pressing need in the future depending on where Holloway comes in.
If giving up that much for Forsberg I could possibly get on board with but he’s gotta be coming in and playing a bigger role 5-5 for it to be worth paying that price. Simple solution is move Hyman to the right and yam then can’t stay in top six he’s easily the least deserving but then deciding who’s better suited for that third line spot I’d say a healthy kass 100% of the time pushing yam all the way to 4th line which obviously not ideal In large part that’s a big reason why if upgrading the top six I see yam being part of the package. No ideal spot for him if someone else is brought in.

Not at this point, no. But if he doesn't have a great season this year and show positive improvement, they have to be thinking about it come next spring/ summer.

Well obviously Kakko will get more money than McLeod - he's a better player. And I have zero concerns about his next contract anyhow as he's an RFA without arbitration rights. He'll get something like the Puljujarvi deal, $1.2M x 2. Unless he breaks out in a big way down the stretch, of course, but he likely won't be getting prime PP time so the point totals won't be massive.

McLeod looks like a 3C from here (ceiling), Holloway looks like he could be a good 2C / average 1C (ceiling). I don't see any reason to worry too much about losing McLeod to someone who has more upside.

Forsberg's role is to help win games, and I'm betting that having the world's best 3rd line will contribute more to winning than loading up an already good top-6.

Also, I'm mystified why so many Oilers fans can't see Yamamoto's value - he's contributing in so many ways even though he's been held off the scoresheet so far. My aim here is to balance the lines with speed, skill and physicality, I'm not putting up a depth chart.

These lines just work. Yamamoto on the 4th line doesn't help the team win today. Yamamoto traded doesn't help the team win today OR in the future.

If Bourgault arrives ahead of schedule and Kakko is on the roster I could see Yamamoto moved, but not before then.
