With Chicago looking to move shaw’s contract, they package strome back to a familiar trade partner and don’t use any future assets to move on from Shaw

Im pretty sure Shaw isn't a negative asset. I would think teams would love to gain cap space because of the LTIR

Maybe in the offseason, but there’s not a ton of takers for it right now

The problem is CHI doesn't care about the money they have to pay him. They are a top 5 value franchise, so paying the $$$ is nothing compared to the cap flexibility it gives them. In fact, without him on LTIR, CHI would be over the cap right now.

Seravalli was discussing their desire to move strome and the Shaw contract, which would get them back to about $3 million in cap space. the problem is there aren’t many teams who can really eat that kind of cap mid season. If they were to move Shaw they’d likely have to give up a 3rd or 4th to do it, and that’s basically the return on strome at this point. So moving both to Arizona solves those transactions in one go. It’s not the fact they have to pay Shaw, they couldn’t care less about that, it’s they don’t want strome, and if they get $6 mil out the door they’ll be banking cap space for a deadline addition
