I agree. Id give way more than Blais and a 2nd for Boeser and I think many many would agree. With that said, Buchnevich was also undersold solely due to cap considerations. If Covid never existed, Buch would have got more in trade too. IMO.

Vancouver doesn’t have to trade Boeser due to cap considerations? Pettersson and Hughes were resigned?

Just for the record, you’re the one being a contrarian here. I don’t think you’ll find anyone outside of New York that thinks Boeser is worth Blais and a 2nd.

Most in New York feel the Rangers should have received more in trade as well, but that is the market value. The Rangers have plenty of skilled players to replace Buchnevich. The Rangers were looking for a player like Blais to beat up on players like McAvoy in the playoffs.

Most fans who’ve never played the game only look at offensive production as a measuring stick, so someone like Blais who has a physical element to his game and point production potential are not appreciated.

Regardless, substitute someone else who’s more of a goal scorer than Blais, but much less physical and a 2nd round pick or just hold on to Boeser. Oh that’s right, they can’t afford to hold on to Boeser next season because they won’t be cap compliant after signing Pettersson and Hughes. Assuming no team gives them an offer sheet.

Vancouver is desperate to trade Boeser, much more so than NYR was to trade Buchnevich. To think Vancouver fans are going to be happy with the trade return of Boeser is flat out ignorant.

Vancouver is not going to trade Boeser just to resign Pettersson and Hughes. That doesn't make any sense. IMO

They need just enough cap space to be compliant. Whatever wherever that is/comes from. They can do that by making smaller trades, putting Ferland on LTIR and potentially the Hamonic situation will help them too.

And you don't sell a premium asset at a loss just to make space. Well you can, but its bad management.

The solution to Vancouver's cap situation is not Boeser. There is a easier and less destructive way to get there. Its hard for us to pinpoint how much without knowing how far apart the three camps are. I don't think they are that far off. it'll get done soon enough and it won't cost Boeser being traded to do it.

I agree that IF Vancouver doesn’t have to trade Boeser, they shouldn’t. I believe the market value right now would be along the lines of what NYR received for Buchnevich.

Maybe the trade market changers this trade deadline or next offseason. Because I don’t think Vancouver will have the cap space to resign Boeser who becomes a RFA after the season. Even if other players on the roster are traded or bought out.

They'll have some decisions to make thats for sure but that's almost every teams problem. I feel Buchnevich and Boeser are not the same caliber player nor were their circumstances the same upon trades. Buch is 26, pending RFA with arb rights and a team that didn't believe in his worthiness of contract and lacks that "star" power". Boeser has all those things and has produced throughout his career at much higher clip than Buch.

Ultimately there's no way to prove right or wrong in this situation so all we can do is speculate but I'll definitely use my personal valuation as an opinion, If I were a team that has the space for Boeser or at the very least can dump a little cap back to the Nucks simply to facilitate the trade, you better believe a 1st will be in there and probably a decent prospect. Right now even at the start of the year. He's worth it.

NYR sold Buch at a loss because they had very little leverage. Their backup plan was not to resign him and everyone knew that. Which drove the price down. Vancouver very much wants to keep Boeser and if no one offers anything of value, they'll simply keep him and trade someone else. They have a backup plan.
