Yes also Ovechkin was probably a better goalscorer than McDavid. It's hard to compare in general since I've never seen Ovechkin play and I've heard he was a cherry picker. But one thing I can say is that whiteboards are better than chalkboards

Well maybe not the right phrase. I mean he just shoots, doesn't play defense just shoots. And somehow turns it into goals. I've heard McDavid is better all round, (by that I mean dekes more than defense), but I haven't seen young Ovechkin so I'm not sure

I wouldn't say the help either one had was that great. Ovi did get Backstrom after his first year and had Alex Semin before he was terrible, like McDavid having Drai and Nugent Hopkins, but outside of that neither had all that great of talent.



As for the question I give it to Ovi by a hair. Without McDavid's injury in his first year I might lean more towards him, but both were electrifying players who turned their teams around quite fast and were at the top of the game from very early on, so really you could go either way.

I say Ovechkin for a couple of reasons. He had to adjust to the smaller ice and was still dominant from the start. He clearly has an edge in goal scoring. McDavid plays center which i think raises expectations and opportunity for higher point totals. Add to that Ovechkins physicality and you have you're winner.
