Hi Jarrett. Like what you did with Lecavalier. Maybe a young Arizona team would take him , especially for only 2.25m a year. Vinny could certainly help the Flyers by having a good year this year. When a team is cash strapped, they gotta hope their youngsters like Hagg and Provorov can make the step up. The Flyers do have 3 young Dman, Hagg, Provorov and Morin. that should be NHLers. Saw Morin play at the Memorial Cup. Looked very smooth for a big boy/man in his skating and puck handling. Looked like Chara (of course he was only playing against other juniors). The Rogers broadcasting $ kicks in next year, but with declining Canadian $ the cap may not go up much, so the entry level rookie contract on all teams are important.
Also, what team do you support and where do you live? Hal

Yeah as bad as the Flyers current blueline is, their prospect pool is stacked. Sanheim could turn into a good defensemen as well. If they can progress as expected the Flyers could be contending pretty soon. Umberger and Streit will be off the books the following season which should give them the cap space to get Mason re-signed and/or go after some FA's.

I'm a Leafs fan in Ottawa(unfortunately lol). Yourself?

Hello Jarrett: Thanks for writing. I enjoy your blogs. By my login, I've let it be known that I'm a Leaf fan. Have lived in Toronto all my life, until recently. Now live retired 90 miles NW of TO in Midland Ontario. Thought the initial Armchair GMs put to much value in Franson. The fact that he hasn't signed anywhere might show he isn't worth the big money and term. What did you think of his play in Toronto?
Looks like the Blue Jays will give their fans an exciting 2months (maybe 3). Have been a little laid up this summer due to a ladder fall oat home. Way too much time to go on "Hockeyscap". Enjoy the long weekend.

I thought Franson played well last year, started to actually use his size to his advantage more often. The biggest issue I have with him is he can be prone to mistakes, which I think can get lost in the analytics that project him to be worth more than he is. I think he's probably also fallen victim to a bit of a market correction this summer. I figure he'll end up getting somewhere around $4-4.5mil from Boston once they find a way to clear some cap space. Should be interesting to see what happens after the arbitration process is over.

Hopefully the Jays can provide some summer excitement. Should be fun to watch at the very least.
