One of them is 22 years old, the other was given away in an expansion draft, became a health scratch in Vegas, was traded to buffalo where he was also a healthy scratch.

1. A 22 year old defenceman that only played in 2 games last season.

2. Giving players away is the whole point of expansion drafts.

3. Miller has been good enough to play the vast majority of games in each year during his time with Buffalo and Vegas.

Whether he was a healthy scratch for a couple of them is somewhat irrelevant.

There are a wide variety of reasons as to why a player would be scratched.

Case in point, Liljegren.

1. A half retained contract of under 2 million with one year left isn't exactly bad.

If that's the case, then the Leafs need to get rid of at least half their team.

2. If Miller was bad, Buffalo wouldn't have traded for him.

Marc-Andre Fleury was good when he played for Vegas, but Vegas traded him, so I guess he's bad, right?

Just using your logic.

Apples and Oranges. Miller was practically given away to Buffalo and became a healthy scratch for the Sabres. They have another high priced goalie so they needed to move the aging one to make their cap work. So a 30 year old number 7 defenceman, (he's likely number 8 on the leafs if that) for just under 2 million is a bad idea.

The reason a 22 year is scratched is because he's still learning and is improving the reason a 30 year old is scratched is because his skill is limited. You're argument is frankly stupid.

1. Receiving two draft picks for Miller isn't exactly giving him away.

2. Dermott, Sandin and Liljegren are not getting the Leafs out of the first round.

Saying that Miller would be your #8 defenceman is laughable.

3. Miller is 28, not 30.

But, please, keep moving the goalposts :/

If Liljegren is scratched because he's "still learning", that means his skill is limited until he proves he can play in the NHL full-time like Miller.

Playing 11 games one season and then only two the next season is not exactly "improving".

Lol just manufacturing points here. The reality is Miller has been a bottom of the rotation guy who makes too much. The leafs have a guy in Liljegren who has a tonne of potential and have no need for Miller. He isn't a difference maker and bleeds high danger chances. Nothing TO needs or wants. His best attribute is his puck moving to which TO has more and way better options. End of debate.

Buffalo is retaining half of Miller's salary.

The notion that he makes too much is moot.

Defensively, Miller’s isolated impact five-on-five of -3.0% xGA pointed toward above-average effectiveness when on the ice.

This places Miller above Rasmus Ristolainen, Rasmus Dahlin, Henri Jokiharju and Jacob Bryson.

Furthermore, when Miller was on the ice in a five-on-five situation, the Sabres were averaging 2.34 xGA/60.

With Miller off the ice, that number ballooned to 2.61 xGA/60.

In other words, Buffalo is less likely to get scored on if Colin Miller is on the ice.

The idea that he bleeds high danger chances doesn't hold much water, especially considering he's playing for Buffalo.

The Leafs need to play in the first round and not get scored on so much for once.

That is everything that TO needs.

Colin Miller is somebody Kyle Dubas and Sheldon Keefe would want, given their history together.

I wonder if you have more points to manufacture.

We'll see if this is the end of the debate.

The Leafs held Montreal to 2 goals a game in the first round of the playoffs and were a better defensive team in a division that boasted the single best offensive player in the game. They don't need Miller. Another prime example of making up points to manufacture an argument that is silly. Miller is not needed or wanted by TO. There isn't a debate here.

You say there isn't a debate here, but you keep responding to me.

Some people have a hard time accepting a post when it's made by someone from a rival fanbase.

You and JaredofLondon are two examples.

That's Ok.

I have no hard feelings smile

No hard feelings. And I have no problems with you making a post. I just explained why TO doesn't have a need or want for Miller. It's an outdated and false narrative to say their defence is bad or they are desperate for RHD. Both are old news that no long apply. So with that in mind, why would they want a depth guy they don't need?
