    1. Jets are over the cap.
    2. They need to move a player to get under the cap.
    3. They just traded for Dillon and Schmidt.
    4. They just signed Stastny and Lowry.
    5. They aren't moving Connor, Scheifele, Dubois, Ehlers, Pionk or Hellebuyck.
    6. Only other player making more than 1.5M is DeMelo.
    7. They left DeMelo exposed in the expansion draft.

If you have #8. Childhood photos of him with Toronto Maple Leafs pyjamas and bed sheets, then it happens.

DeMelo is a good defensive defensemen who fits in well with Winnipeg and Chevy likes him why would he ever want to trade him

Give me 5 good reasons and I’ll believe you

He's a 3 million dollar bottom pair defender on your team. That isn't worth more than a 2nd, even that is rather a lot to pay.

I guess, he can go for whatever as far as I'm concerned, DeMelo is pretty overrated imo just don't see retention happening if they moved him.

Depending on the season he has and if he even wants to extend in Winnipeg PLD'S raise might be doable with Stastny coming off the books and Beaulieu expiring frees up a bit more but yeah its pretty tight to make it all fit after the Schmidt and Dillon trades.
It's ridiculous that Heinola looks like he's the odd man out this year unless another move on the backend is coming, the kid is ready for the NHL.

Obviously DeMelo is a good 3rd pairing D man but most 3rd pairing D men make under 2M.

I like DeMelo but without retention or seeing him play in harder matchups it's hard for me to justify anything more than a 3rd round pick at this time.

I mean there gonna need cap space to extend PLD and Copp and get a proper backup for buck. Plus Heinola or Samberg need a spot. So hes probs gonna get moved at some point

That said its probs a 2nd + something else with no retention

I would have given a 2nd when he was on the Sens and was only getting paid 900k.

Dubas should have taken two 2nd rounders for Tyson Barrie and flipped one of them for DeMelo. Instead he insisted on getting a 1st and a high end prospect and ended up losing him for nothing.
