Horvat is a 2C. It’s nearly impossible to contend without a 1C. Why would the islanders make this trade?

Horvat can be a 1C. He’s one of the best 2C in the league and he can provide a lot of offense if he’s not burdened with defensive responsibilities…

He’s already 26, I think he is what he is by now. He’s very good, he’s just not a 1C on a playoff team.

Oh my god so old!!! 26 😮. He can be a 1C, he just hasn’t been given the role since we have EP40

I never said he was old, but he’s averaged 1st line minutes over the last 3 seasons and hasn’t had a 1st line impact. No chance the islanders would consider trading a top 15 center like Barzal for him

Because the Canucks have been a dumpster fire. He’s been in a shutdown role cause no one else can do that job. We have Dickinson to take care of that so he can make a bigger impact offensively…

Horvat has been very good offensively, it’s actually his defense that he’s struggled with. He has a reputation of being a defensive minded center but that’s not the case. He’s a high end 2C, nothing wrong with that. Just not a 1C on a playoff team, which is why I’m arguing the isles would never make this trade

And what about Boeser? He’s instantly be your best winger on your team. Vancouver wouldn’t even consider that and why would be? Barzal would be our 2C and we have no reason to trade our 2C and our best winger for another 2C…

Barzal is a superstar, top 15 center in the league. That’s like saying Malkin was a 2C caliber player his entire career. It doesn’t matter if the isles acquired boeser, without a true 1C you can’t contend. While Boeser is good, I’d rather keep Barzal and put Wahlstrom on his wing.

Too bad he’s not as good as Pettersson. Pettersson is our 1C. We don’t need Barzal especially at the price here…

I agree , pettersson is a top 7 center. Some teams have spent decades looking for a true 1C without any luck., which is why teams rarely trade them. Benning lucked into one. Hopefully he doesn’t waste Pettersons prime years.

Benning would accept this trade in a heartbeat. It’s a no brainer. Kinda weird that an isles fan would look to get rid of one of the most dominant players they’ve had in franchise history.

Still doubt Benning would trade our true 2C and possibly 1C if Pettersson gets injured and our top winger for another elite center. It would completely ruin our top 9. Our top 9 is exactly where it needs to be and losing an extra player from it really hurts and not helps our team.

I wanted to get rid of Tavares when everyone was gaga over him and that worked out OK, I don't want to get rid of Barzal but I would like the Islanders to get stronger and have more goal production also I would enjoy seeing barzal play on a more offensive team and see what numbers he could put up. IMO Vancouver would be brain dead to accept this deal. Barzal is great but with his style of play I think we are trying to put a round peg in a square hole, Horvat style is exactly what Trotz likes but Boeser is the goal scorer we need. Just compare the goals total of these player from last year Isle win big time.

Barzal finished top 10 among all forwards in even strength goal production despite not playing as much as a majority of 1st liners around the league because Trotz rolls 4 lines.

The narrative that Trotz system affects Barzal is a myth. Barzal is a one man system and he’s the only one that Trotz allows to consistently carry the puck into the offensive zone. By Horvats style I assume you mean he’s physical , that doesn’t mean sh*t. Barzal fits the islanders better because he’s actually good defensively , Horvat is not. Wahlstrom has the potential to be just as good as Boeser long term, and wahlstrom was actually better than Boeser last season.

At the end of the day, barzal is a superstar, Horvat and Boeser are not. I guess sorry that you want to see Barzal on a different team, but that’s not going to happen.

Getting rid of Tavares worked out ok because Barzal is currently better than Tavares. You’re making the team significantly worse and slower just because you want to see Barzal on a team that you think would give Barzal more freedom lol

Having Eriksson and Pearson as your wingers might have something to do with that
