Buffalo is getting fleeced here, replace the 3rd with a 1st, and either Hague or Coghlan with another foward and then I think it’s better.

There was a rumor that said this was the ask from Vegas for Buffalo, but with a 1st, and Friedman said it wasn’t true.

Edit: just noticed the 6 million for Dubnyk, yeah, that would be such a Sabres move haha

Pens decline. They don’t really need retention on smith if it’s gonna cost a 1st rounder. I doubt Zucker would waive for Buffalo anyways.

I saw that friedman said it wasnt true. Since that rumor came out, everybody is trying to post their comparables to a trade rumor that wasnt true. And for dubnyk, adams hasnt overpaid for a goalie YET, so im hoping he knows better, although i thought boston overpaid for ullmark (minimally in term) and apparently he took the same deal from boston that buffalo offered him- so maybe dubnyk at 6 isnt all that far fetched.

Sabres are going to need to get to the floor and a one year deal on an experienced goalie they can flip at the deadline maybe their only option.

A first to upgrade at wing and free themselves of $3,000,000 in cap this season and $5,500,000 next season is relatively cheap. They are in their window now, they aren't going to care a bout a late 1st rounder they maybe a player in 5 years.

Reilly smith isn’t really an upgrade at wing though. He’s a lateral move at best. Had exactly the same type of year Zucker had. I’d rather just trade Zucker for Reilly straight up with vegas which was a rumor at one point. The pens would get 500k cap space this year, 5.5 mil next year. The pens don’t need cap space this year. Their whole team is signed. They ain’t signing anyone else lol. This is their team.

Nobody ever has trouble getting to the floor. Plus with an eichel trade most likely coming, the sabres will be taking back salary, whether its a steaming cap dump or a marginally useful vet that can be spun retained for assets is the question. I wonder if dubnyk at 3 million at the deadline has any value.

Reilly Smith is an upgrade over Zucker for sure. My proposal has the Sabres eating half Smith's salary this year ($2,500,000) which frees up $3,000,000 in cap space this year and the only $5,500,000 next year.

$60.5 million is the floor, take away the Dubnyk contract and they are right at the floor.

No he really isn’t an upgrade. He is a lateral move at best. Not even really that. Zucker is a 20-30 goal scorer and 40-50 point player. Smith is a 15-25 goal scorer and 40-50 point player. Both players were exactly the same last year. And again, the pens don’t need cap space. The pens have their whole team signed. They have a full roster. They DO NOT NEED CAP SPACE. If the pens are going to use a 1st to get rid of a contract, it’d be Matheson’s, not Zucker’s. But I repeat, the pens DO NOT NEED CAP SPACE. So therefore, they will not pay to gain cap space this year when they DO NOT NEED CAP SPACE. Let me repeat just in case you didn’t get it. THE PENS DO NOT NEED CAP SPACE!
