Yeah, I'm not down with that trade at all. Merzlikins likely goes to market next summer and you can get him then for nothing but money.
Koskinen's save percentage over the past 2 seasons - apart from the crazy start to this year when he played 12 games in 24 nights, traveling thousands of miles across 4 time zones - was .916 in all situations. Merzlikins posted a .920 over the past 2 seasons in all situations. Is that .004 really worth Yamamoto + a 1st??
To put it in greater perspective, Koskinen faced 1553 shots over that timeframe. If Merzlikin's sv% would hold firm behind Edmonton's more porous defense, he would have saved just 6 more goals than Koskinen did, in 52 games. Six goals. Meanwhile you're sending back Yamamoto who scored 19 goals over the past 1.5 seasons AND a 1st round pick.
That's a hilariously bad trade for the Oilers.
