That pick is nowhere near adequate payment for taking on Myers’s woeful contract.

The Schmidt contract was for a 3 round so will this one also be imo. They take Pk bad contract back so maybe it's a 4 rounder...

You are making a few false equivalencies here.

The first being that Myers is as good a defender as Schmidt, he isn’t he by a long shot. Myers have been putting up some of the worst defensive impacts in the entire league the last three seasons and at 31 it’s only gonna get worse from here on.

Second, PK and his contract doesn’t have negative value for the Devils, who still are below the cap floor. His expiring 9million cap hit does in no way hurt the Devils. Also, he outperformed both Schmidt and Myers last season and is expected to get better results with fewer responsibilities for next season (as NJ just signed Hamilton). The Myers contract on the other hand is gonna be a big problem in its last year as many of NJ’s young players are gonna come of their ELCs’ that offseason and can’t afford to have Myers below replacement level 6million cap hit at that time.

It just doesn’t work, you gotta find another team to dump Myers on for that cheap.

Schmidt is much better than Myers and PK contract comes off for devils next season so they don’t really need to do anything as their cap situation for this year is fine. Finding somebody to take on Myers contract is going to require hefty payment. Seattle or Arizona might do it but you’re looking at multiple picks including a first with how much term is left on it.

And you left out the best part, NJ has already paid Subban's bonus, so VAN would only be on the hook for $2 million this season.

Subban for only $2 mil is a great value.
