Personally, I think Bear and the second is an overpay for one year of Ristolainen. Then you can buy out Neal and have $2.9 million in cap space.

Edit: that Arizona trade is AWFUL, and makes no sense, for the Coyotes.

Arizona gains slightly on the draft pick swap (the Edmonton first is probably equal to the Arizona 2021 second and a 2022 second) but they lose heavily on the ice because Kessel is still productive and Koskinen could be the next Scott Darling and the money is basically the same.

Coyotes are looking to get rid of Kessel. They have no first round pick this year but have 7 second round picks in the next two drafts. So giving up an aging player who won't resign next year and a second for a 20th overall pick in a crab shoot of a draft + a goalie who would likely be a replacement for Kuemper when he eventually is traded this off-season. Koskinen is definitely no Kuemper but for a team rebuilding for the next 3-4 years it's a good fit.

1. I don't see how a dubious if not downright bad goalie is a "good fit" for a rebuilding team.

2. Although you're an Arizona fan, and thus by definition more privy to information on the Coyotes than I am, I don't see why they would be "looking to get rid of Kessel." He had a better year than any Edmonton forward not named McDavid or Draisaitl and roughly equivalent to William Nylander, and there are some subtle indications that Toronto was a better team than Arizona last year.

3. The problem with dismissing this year's draft as a "crap shoot" is that it argues AGAINST moving from #42 to #19 because the chances of success are the same when you're tossing darts at a dart board blindfolded. Your argument is stronger -- much stronger -- if you say that there's a clear qualitative difference between #19 and #42.

Koskinen's sv % was .918 2 years ago and .910 after they stopped playing him 15 games in a row he's an established goaltender and not scott darling he's just a backup level goalie because he can only play about 35 games a year he doesn't do well playing often.

Neal for Ristolainen is the basis of a hockey trade - one cap dump for another. Adding all those other assets is just insane.

What do you see in Hakanpää that I don't? He's a 3rd pairing / 7th defenseman on a playoff team.

Typical Oilers fan: grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.

They need a big body who is hard on the opposition and hits there are not many who fit that mold that they could get.

He hits a lot, but he gives up the blueline too easily and is bad at defending while being only average offensively at 5v5. In short, he's a massive liability.

Besides, Nurse is a "big body who is hard on the opposition and hits" - why does his partner need to be the same?

I think Bear is Nurse's Partner? They need a partner for keith.

You have Ristolainen on the 1st pairing with Nurse. Keith needs a partner who is strong defensively, and Ristolainen most definitely is not that.
