Must have got that one backwards, by taking on that contract calgary should only be giving up a 3rd max. Eberle is still a serviceable player but certainly not worth paying $5.5m and giving up a 2022 1st in the process.

And with the term on his deal it will end up interfering with Gaudreau, Mangiapane and Tkachuk who will all get decent money assuming they re-sign. We even have young guys like Dube and Valimaki who will likely be getting some pay raises over that span. I dont know if you realize the difference in talent from the 1st to 2nd and 3rd round. Basically around 35-40% of players drafted in the 1st play more than 100gp in the nhl, whereas that number drops all the way to around 17% and 13% for the 2nd and 3rd rnd respectively. Thats a massive difference.

Why dont you look at the other 2 teams. Theyre ****in championship teams and theyre much younger and its sustainable capwise. I went through the next 3 years with that.
