Why buy out Bozak, and then sign a minor leaguer like Chipchura.

Defense. Chipchura may not score but his defensive play is definitely not minor league level. You need to have some veteran presence on the team, might as well be the 4th line centre. I also don't see any point in having Bozak as a 4th line centre and I wouldn't want him taking a spot from a younger player if they are ready. Plus, the buyout would only be $750,000 against the cap in years 3 and 4, i.e. when it might actually matter.

I'm hoping the Leafs can still find a trade partner but I'm having trouble seeing who will realistically have a use for him. At least right now. Maybe trade deadline?
