I'd think a 3-year bridge probably makes the most sense. Coming off of a Norris, if you're buying 8 years right through his prime he'll be 31 on the other side of his peak and will have likely missed the chance for his huge UFA deal due to age. His UFA years from Age 28-31 will be worth a lot to him so you're probably looking at a $10mil AAV range contract rich with signing bonuses and full NMC that you have to fit in right away. The Rangers only have 4 contracts in place further than 2 years out, that's lots of room to plan what his next contract will look like and how it fits in going forward. It'd be way easier to fit in say a $7mil (he'll want it backloaded to max the QO) and pencil in what you think his contract that takes him from 26-34 will look like. I don't think it'd be the case but on the off chance he takes a step back you're also protected before you're too committed to turn back.
