Quoting: Leafs09
ya I am not on the Domi Train either. A top 6 would be nice, Robertson should be full time next year as well. BUt more imporatntly, they need some big mean D-man. If that meansd Rielly goes via trade and Sandin steps in as a PP guy, we could then afford some actual D- man that are just straight shut down simple players.
Mtl - Weber, Chariot, Edmundson,
Tampa - Hedman, Mcdonaugh, Cernak, Ruuta
NYI - Pelech, Mayfield, Pulock, Dobson
Vegas - Petro, Martinez, Theodroe, McNabb
the leafs really dont need another defender, their defence was better than fine and they solved the main issue with Brodie.
Montreal's defence has been good for two reasons, the system of just collapsing allows their slower guys to not get caught out of possition and be exposed for just not being very good and having Cary Price be in god mode. You could not pay me to bring in a guy like any of the three guys you mentioned, they are all terrible and would be exposed horribly in the leafs system.
Tampa's guys are just really good on top of being big and the islanders are basically just a more skilled version of the Habs method with worse goaltending (Pelech and Pulock are just incredibly smart defensive players) and Vegas has two Norris calibre guys in Petro and theodore (Martinez is a product of Theo and McNabb is just along for the ride).
The Leafs should 100% target two big guys on the market right now, but that's more so because they are very good (that's 6'5 dougie hamilton and 6'2 McCabe).
If you want to add someone to the leafs defence they have to be reasonably mobile and able to move the puck up the ice, big and mean would be a bonus, but it has to be a plus to who you add and not something you specifically target.
