Description
With Savard and Nutivaara injury...
Milano played under Bednar last year in Cleveland (Lake Erie), and played well, so there is chemistry and history there. He's young, has potential and would be a good piece to add in Colorado for a rebuild. Barrie is another puck-moving defenseman that the Jackets could use as they move towards the playoffs.

Avs would like some immediate NHL help for Barrie.....Jenner, Prout, Milano, but you are right, maybe CBJ is a good scenario for Barrie.

I think Milano is someone who could use some NHL action for the remainder of this season and could have a roster spot next year. Unfortunately for him, that's probably not going to be with Columbus because of the depth at forward. Jackets would probably be ok throwing in someone like Prout as a "sweetener" or someone along those lines. It's an interesting scenario.

I'd say throw in Hartnell to give them a solid F and to take back some salary and that there's a deal.

I don't see them moving Hartnell since they brought him in for the purpose of playing in the playoffs. Maybe Gagner since it's doubtful CBJ can resign him?

Not the kind of deal the Avs are looking for I imagine. They're looking FOR defenseman, not to get rid of one of their 3 capable ones in return for a mystery box of futures.

There's this weird thing called the expansion draft coming up. Not to mention the cap isn't expected to rise next season, and Wennberg, Anderson, Sedlak and Korpisalo all need new deals....

Barrie's 5.5M long-term contract does not fit within the team's salary structure, nor does he fit on the third pairing behind Jones and Savard with that contract. This move makes no sense for either team, a better option for D help would be to look for an to-be-UFA like Stone, Franson, etc.

They can fetch a defenseman with Duchene and or Landeskog. I think they would welcome a first and a good forward prospect to replace Landeskog and Iginla.

A good idea if Barrie, Jones and Murray are protected. CBJ could lose Johnson or Savard and be okay. It does hurt to trade a protected player for an unprotected one, but either way the Jackets are only losing one player to expansion.

That being said, Milano is having a good year in Cleveland and I think will be playing for CBJ down the stretch.

If Savard or Johnson is taken I think they are still fine long-term, but if Karlsson is taken then the back end would be super-heavy and some moves would need to be made. I think Barrie is an upgrade over Savard though, and it wouldn't be hard to trade him or Johnson out. I like the idea.

I agree... I also think it's never a bad thing to have too many defensemen. Great trade value as everyone wants one.

You would be OK with losing Savard for nothing? Goodness. Have you watched how pathetic our defense has looked without him in the lineup? Barrie is nowhere near Savvy's level defensively. We don't need to add more high-priced players either.

I would trade Milano and a 1st for Barrie. I would not trade Milano and a 1st for Savard. Losing him in expansion would suck, but they're going to lose somebody either way. Essentially we're losing Milano and a 1st to expansion, which is still hard to swallow, but I think this makes the team better.
