Description
So, if Klefbom is not healthy enough to go another year bringing in somebody like Kempny(yes I understand he is coming off injuries too, but it sounds more promising that he's going to return at the level he was accustomed too for next season)..
Couple low risk high reward deals, should Nino work out for the final year of his deal maybe they re-sign him to an extension during or after the season, if not find another FA next season when the pool is a bit deeper with offensive players..
No need to buyout Neal this year, don't need dead cap space for 4 years when they can keep him and stay under the cap this year, if he doesn't pan out again this year buy him out next year and only have 2 more years as opposed to 3 more remaining...
Caps deal will depend on Vanacek going in the expansion draft or not, would be a low risk high reward deal for Wash to have a decent backup for Samsonov in his make or break year(for both guys really) but worst case scenario they get a solid young D man who can move and move the puck well...
Might bring back Kahun on a cheap deal, but rather give Marody the bottom 6 opportunities being a RH C, who also played with McLeod in Bakersfield on the best AHL line....
And please Oiler fans, stop trying to bring back Khaira on a more expensive deal than what he was getting the prev years, he's not worth it, case and point Shore is $850k and look how much more faith Tipp had in him in the playoffs, he's cheaper and all around better than Khaira....

Not a chance I waste all the cap money on Koskinen as the Caps. He's still at least million overpaid even with the retention.

No from Carolina. Nino isn't the player to move if we need to free up cap space, and we have no LW prospects that he is actively blocking. Even if we did want to move from him, I think we could get more than a 5th and a prospect.

Khaira is better playing centre than shore in almost every aspect. Khaira is also much more effective on pk limits more quality chances and covers the slot. Shore is an excellent 13th or 14th forward waiting in press box for a chance to play khaira is an everyday nhler at this point. I’d point out jj is more willing to be nasty as well however after getting knocked out a couples times this year that’s a part of his game like to see more limited. If jj wants 1.250 that’s a deal I’d sign all day long twice on sundays even if they both end up the guys playing crazy eights in the pressbox most nights easily first to be called upon.

JJ is god awful at C, look at his %, and he is not the everyday player you seem to think he is, I'm not saying he doesn't belong in the Show, but, I would def go out of my way to say he's NOT worth anything around $1m for a caphit, to play the same role as Shore.. The point I am more so making is that McLeod has stepped over him on the Depth chart, and the fact they will be looking for a 3rd line C who is an upgrade over Khaira/Turris, leaves no real room for him now that Shore has been signed for a cheaper deal.. I don't see JJ returning to Edmonton unless he signs a discounted deal like Shore did, to play in the bottom 6 and 100% not at C, because there are other players that can play a more offensive game while being responsible in the defensive end that are younger and cheaper, leaving more Cap space to bring in somebody via Trade of UFA to play in the top 6 with Connor, Leon and Nuge....

Why was he playing 3rd line LW for the majority of the season? It's just a question, not a sarcastic response.. I understand he started the season in the top 6 but slowly moved down to L3 and 2nd unit PP.. And with Hamilton likely moving on, who would be the expendable player to free up any sort of cap space to bring in other team needs- like a goalie, love Nedel but he still needs a contract and some support to back up him too...

Yes, the $3m is not ideal for a backup to Sammy w/ 1 YR, but I don't see the Caps having much of any room to bring somebody else in(unless Hank signs another team friendly deal) plus move out some unwanted contracts- Kempny, Jensen, Hagelin.. Nobody would really be willing to take those deals on and give you anything of substance in return.. The Kempny thing was to free up a spot on the backend for youth, like Fehervary, but he's quickly turning into another Madison Bowey, whereas Jones is a bit more NHL solified and more of what the Caps backend needs, a solid puck moving D man, who can play both sides, so whether he plays up with Carly or down with Dillon he gives them more versatility, while getting younger... If the Oilers retained $2m of Koskinen's deal I really don't think GMBM rejects them...

He was on the 2nd line for most of the season. Our 2nd line of Nino-Trocheck-Necas was the most consistent line during the season. Nino was also always on the 2nd PP, Necas was the only person that moved between the powerplay units and that was because Teuvo was out.

Cap space isn't the hold-up for Dougie. Or front office is very strict in negotiations. If you want more than they are willing to give, they will try to move you for assets.

"Strict" or Frugal?? I get what you mean, but with guys like Necas, Jarvis, Suzuki, Geekie(RFA) knocking on the door, that means LW looks more like Svech, Teuvo, Nino, and roughly $29m to spread out b/w Svech, Bean, Ned, backup G, plus the bottom 6 F and 3rd line D pairing to round out the roster.. I'm not saying they're desperate to move somebody, cause they can very well could sign some bridge deals and what have you, but, with Nino likely to play on the 3rd line this coming season I can see his value dropping more as the year goes on- ex: right before Carolina acquired him from Minny type season...

I meant strict. Our owner is frugal off the ice, but he spends to the cap. I don't think he cares if he is spending 8 million on Dougie or 5 million on Nino and 3 million on another player, as long as that player is deemed worth it by the team.

LW is currently Svech, Nino, Foegele, and ???. Teuvo doesn't play LW very much with us. Geekie and Jarvis are both RW. Suzuki is a center that could transition to LW but is most likely not making the main roster next year.

If we need to move someone for cap space it will be Gardiner, who was out most of last season with an injury. Nino is worth more to us as a player than a 5th and a prospect.
