Description

I think this team improves without committing long term salary. Adds players who add to the young core but sacrifices some high picks in this years draft which IMO is a bigger crapshoot than normal.

Either Zacha or Dickenson could be 3C but I see Zacha as having a bit more offensive upside after his break out season so fitting better with Bo. I think Dickenson is likely the better of the two long term.

Despite breaking out Zacha still has some question marks about whether he is a legit top 6 player. Moving into the top 10 is a significant asset and think taking back a bit of Salary in Roussel and moving the 28-31 pick seems reasonable.

The Dickinson move allows Dallas to get a good asset and decent prospect for a player they would either lose for free or pay to keep.

Hagg isn't anything special but he adds physicality and can be solid on the 3rd pair. Phi gets a vet back up for 3M and an NHL ready prospect with some upside still.

Raanta might be a little underpaid but hard to tell what his value will be after a sub par season with more injuries, additional cap space available to tweak salary range.

Perhaps swap for devils 2nd but sorry Zacha isn't worth that much. Jury is still out if he's even a top 6 player. 9th OA is pretty significant piece.

While I'm not sure he's as bad as the analytics suggest, he's hardly worth a top 10 pick alone.

Faksa is a good target as well but I would prefer staying away from that contract.

I like Eller but at 32 and soon to be UFA, moving the 2nd is short sighted. Faksa at 27 and 3 more years or Dickenson as an RFA makes more sense for where the nucks are at could see a team like EDM moving a 2nd for eller as they are in more win now mode.

Vancouver had a bad year but i think adding a cup winning center that puts up great numbers playing with little talent around him would be great add. Eller is much better than Dickinson and Faksa. regardless of age i would take the better player

I do believe the point is more so that Roussel has to be a cap dump. I do think the Devils need to take on Eriksson's contract to give VAN cap freedom in addition to a Roussel or a Beagle.
As a Devil fan, Zacha actually is not a center anymore, he's a wing. I wasn't a big fan of his, but I'll give credit where due, he was solid on the Nico-Bratt line to end the year.

The discussion is more likely around Wood who put up 17 goals from the 4th line and brings speed but is behind a bunch of LWs.

I think another one of the top defenseman in the draft (preferably Clarke) needs to be available for NJ to make that trade, otherwise it’s pretty poor asset management. They severely need defensive help and need to get that if they are trading their two most valuable and expendable assets.

I expect one or both of those pieces to be moved to grab a defenseman prior to the expansion draft and if they can’t then it’s probably better to hold onto your pieces and see if zacha can be the player he showed flashes of being last season with a consistent line.
