You maybe right but I disagree completely. DeBrusk has been in the league for four years. I would say he’s had three good years and one down year that was during a pandemic. You can judge this season as a step back but I don’t think you can write him off.

DeBrusk is a third liner because Marchand and Hall are on the roster. Not sure how many left wingers on other teams in the league could jump over them in the lineup. On Edmonton for example he would probably be their best left wing (with Ryan and Leon being considered centres). So I don’t think calling him a third liner is correct.

You just made my point.

A) On any championship team or a team pushing for a Stanley Cup DeBrusk is a 3rd line LW.
B) it's nice you can move him up and down the line up ( positive) but it doesn't mean he's a true top 6 player and that's ok, I think Boston truly knows this, his numbers tell and his analytics tell us this much.

I'm not crapping on DeBrusk, he's good player but his value is extremely limited given his current contract and his future qualifying offer is going to kick the Bruins in the bean bag.
In a normal CAP world this might not be a problem but it's a massive problem in a closed CAP world. a Huge problem.

Lol okay chief. 2nd pair guys play at very least 20. Usually north of that.

The first part of my post was in regards to you just entirely skipping over what i said about debrusk, and making up something i didn’t say.

Btw, bear was 150th in TOI this season. 5th on the oilers. Womp womp

I think you missed the point it’s not always about their play but the depth of a roster. This season Debrusk was a third liner and previous year he was a second liner. Again you can’t tell me that on Edmonton he won’t be their top left winger.

You can look at a bunch of playoff teams with player in higher or lower roles. By your logic a player like Leo Komarov is a better player because he is higher in the lineup lol.

Look at Vegas, is Alex Tuch a top six player or bottom six? We know he typically plays on the third line but I think most people will agree he could play higher in the lineup but doesn’t because of roster depth.

That's not an endorsement of the player but an indictment of the Edmonton Oilers LW issues. On good teams versatility is a key to success, guys that can play up & down your line up.

DeBrusk is not a top 6 player, you can go down swinging he is, it wont make him one. His average is 33.5 points per year. 33 points....That's a 3rd liner.

It's all academic anyways, DeBrusk has a debilitating contract the will make moving him difficult for Boston and makes teams extremely wary of trading assets to a player who's qualifying offer will be 4.9 Million dollars......

DeBrusk is NOT a 5 million dollar player. Full Stop, trading any asset at this time if your any other team then Boston is lunacy! Unless it's a trade and signing of an extension that will lower DeBrusks AVV is stupid.

I don’t think we are going to agree and there are a ton of posts/ discussions on DeBrusk’s value.

The point I’m arguing on his value is that it’s more likely to improve then get worse. DeBrusk may not be a 5 million dollar player currently but any team trading for him has to be thinking he’ll bounce back and produce higher numbers. Like a lot trades in the league it’s not all about what that player has done but will do for their roster.

The argument that Debrusk will never produce more than 30 points or so is crazy to me. Using Edmonton as the example of a team trading for him, I find it very unlikely he would only put up 30 points there. For fun let’s say playing with Connor and/ Leon is it likely he’ll produce 50+ points? And maybe he has good chemistry, plays in multiple roles and a bit of success in the playoffs. So if that happened would he not be worth 5 million?

That’s my issue with just using DeBrusk current production to determine his value on the market. So many trades being discussed have next to no value for Boston and just the potential to make them look terrible. Like the original idea (Debrusk+3rd for Bear) and I have seen worst offers. A good trade needs to have a bit more balance in value.

I hope Boston doesn’t trade him actually but if they do it’s got to be for something of value that offers them a chance to “win” the trade as well. I still view him as having potential and room to grow.

You're right, we can spin this around and around.

While I've watched GM's HOPE players coming in can just magically be zoomed by McDavid I've seen player after player not.

They thought Strome would be a 50 point player playing with McDavid and were pissed he was exactly what they traded for.
I watched Taylor Hall struggle with McDavid.
Kassian struggle with McDavid.

I think it would be irresponsible of a GM to trade for a player based on Hoping a player can get back to 50 points.
I'm internally struggling that RNH is no longer a 65 point player and paying him anymore than 5 million because he plays with McDavid is criminal at this point for the Oilers.
