Thats 2 players that are a bit(if not majorly) overpaid. Id say the picks are enough to dump Erikkson

I actually think it’s pretty close value. The first rounder they receive is the 9th overall in this years draft. If they trade Jones to other team it would probably be a later 1st round pick. They would able to select a player like Kent Johnson.

So I’m not sure if there would be a trade that would give Columbus a better prospect.

But yeah Vancouver would have to add another sweetener to really get the trade done. Since Columbus is taking on Eriksson’s contract while giving away their best player. Jenner is also a player I think that has value and a lot of upside.

It's not even remotely close. Putting two cap dumps in a Jones trade is a complete non-starter. Having us add on top of that? Go away and make room for the serious offers.

I understand what you’re saying and by no means is it a prefect trade but I think you can see the value in it. The trade needs work for sure. But I don’t think the first reaction should be to hang up the phone.

I don’t see Vancouver going all in on Jones for potentially one season. But if they can get cap space and a player like Jones it would definitely improve their chances next year.

For CBJ if they are trading Jones on a expiring contract and it is most likely it would be to a contender so most draft picks include in any deal would be a late round pick. In this trade they would get a pretty good prospect since they would be selecting in the top 10. Another team could offer more picks or prospects and no cap dumps but I don’t know if any team would trade away a higher end prospect or draft pick.

CBJ probably want to make a run next year but I’m not sure they have the depth right now. A lot would have to go right for them to make the playoffs in my opinion. I think they could view next season as a chance to retool and restock.

While both players coming in the trade are cap dumps, they both have only one year remaining. Trading Jones contract would leave them with around 30 million and if they took on those two contract, CBJ would still have more then 20 million in space. So I’m not sure if those contracts would really hurt them or prevent them from being able to make other moves.

Definitely not an prefect trade but I think both GMs would be smart to consider a trade with framework like this.

There's absolutely none worth speaking of. With a Jones trade, we either need to boost the roster back up, or go for futures. This handicaps the roster futher and cheaps out on futures.

You took one part of my response. It’s NOT a prefect trade for CBJ but how is the 9th overall in this year draft not valuable? The pick would definitely help setup their future.

Again Vancouver would need to add more but not anything too crazy. I can see reasons for and against it. If you expect to trade Jones and have a major win it’s probably unlikely to happen.

Maybe you have a better trade in mind but I think you get more quality over quantity in this proposal. Would a deal that gives them later first rounder, maybe another draft pick and a prospect be better? Just because of the bad contracts included that are only one year?

Think of it this way.

We need quality futures for Jones. Futures, plural. Therefore it'd be the 9th and some other quality prospect - and it'd have to be pretty damn good quality, because the 9th pick in this Random Grab Bag of a draft doesn't have the kind of value it might have had in another, and so far as I can tell the Canucks don't have anybody at that quality level (they've got better than that in Podkolzin, but that just complicates things even more). A 2023 pick is a little too far off in the future to be helpful there. THEN one has to consider compensation for taking on those cap dumps.

That’s fair and understandable. I was just saying that the framework of Jones for the 9th overall pick is interesting for both sides. And both side have their own pros/ cons for this deal. I have seen a few trade on here for Jones that were a lot worst. The 2023 pick probably should be changed and I agree there’s no real interesting prospects realistically available on Vancouver right now.

But I think CBJ would be lucky to get the 9th overall and there quite a few players that would be available at that spot that could help ease the pain of losing Jones.

Another team could offer more in the way of a decent prospect plus picks and they might make more sense using your viewpoint. It just depends on how you value different assets. You don’t usually see a top ten draft pick moving.
