Description
This offseason proposal is what it would look like if the Isles locked up their key RFAs for the next 5 years - I used the Demko contract for Sorokin and Pelech and Beau I have listed @ 5 AAV. I didn't sign beau to a 6 year deal thinking - he'd probably prefer to get to free agency at 29 than 30. My scenario is a look at that and could they lock up someone like Palmieri as well, who I have signing an identical contract that Toffoli signed with the Habs last offseason. I have Zajac signing a similar deal that Soderburg (a comparable 35 year old C) signed last off season

This is less about me advocating for this lineup, but moreso to see what would be possible if they took this route, which was locking up RFAs and Palmieri

You forgot Andy greenes bonuses (2 mill) - I really don’t like the idea of paying a washed up Andy Greene 5 mill.

I'm inclined to think that the $2.75 million cap hit for Greene combines those bonuses, plus another one year, league minimum deal.

Of course, if Greene were to come back, we'd probably load his next deal up with even more bonuses (lol), so I'm with you. Don't like him manning the second pair anyways

if that's the case, I stand corrected lol. There are like 5 defenseman in free agency that the isles can sign for less than 1 mill that are significantly better than Greene. I prefer defenseman that don't look like theyre skating in mud 90% of the time.

    Greene 2.75 = 2 m bonuses for 2021 + .750 k league min.

"There are like 5 defenseman in free agency that the isles can sign for less than 1 mill that are significantly better than Greene."

Who are they? I'd like to know who are the significant upgrades at league minimum.

kulikov, koekkek, hutton , forbert, merrill. All of those defenseman are significantly better than Greene and will cost between 750k-1 mill . I don't get the infatuation with 40 year old Dmen who can't skate.

None of these guys are significantly better than Greene.
Koekkek and Hutton suck, you know that right?
Merrill is NOT significantly better - I wouldn't even characterize him as a better D-man than Greene.

You can make a case for Kulikov, but he'll get over a million.
And Forbert is getting paid this offseason - No way he goes for under a million.

    I don't have an infatuation with 40-year-old Dmen -
Greene has been a warrior this year and has done a lot for Dobson's development.
Having watched a lot of islander hockey this year - I am definitely OK with Greene anchoring the bottom pair and mentoring someone like Bolduc.

These rosters are designed to take a deeper look into different offseason scenarios.
The scenario I was laying out was - how do we retain Palmieri and stay under the cap, but overcome the loss of Leddy.
Chara is someone who is better than any of the guys you suggested and would sign at a league minimum - albeit with bonuses that would be tacked onto the following season.

So, this lineup would look better if ****ing Slater Koekkek was getting league minimum instead of Greene?

With the leadership and other intangibles this guy brings on the ice and in the lockerroom, Koekkek is your guy - **** off.

Yeah - the team is losing Leddy to expansion and in this scenario choosing to replace him with Chara.
Chara at 45 and @ league minimum has more value than Merrill or Koekkek or whoever else you get at the league minimum.

The roster is a look at keeping Palmieri and replacing Leddy with someone cheap.

intangibles don't matter if he can't skate or execute a simple tape to tape pass. The islanders are significantly worse when Greene is on the ice. Let him be a coach where the isles can benefit from his leadership and intangibles. This team is not short on locker room guys,.

With your logic we should re-sign Dennis seidenberg
