Devils Offseason

Créé par: NoVaSpartan
Équipe: 2021-22 Devils du New Jersey
Date de création initiale: 2 juin 2021
Publié: 2 juin 2021
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
Im a fan of a division rival so I dont expect to do a great job, but I thought I might as well try.

Explanation:
New Jersey drafts Clarke at 5 and Chayka at 18 to fortify the D prospect pool. With the acquired Rangers pick, the Devils grab Raty. Clarke plays a few games as a rookie, but mostly in the AHL or CHL. The other two stay in their respective leagues for at least a year.

FA:
Sharangovich: played very well this year, takes a two year bridge deal that helps the Devils
Kuokkanen: Another bridge deal, may be somewhat overpayed but wont hurt the Devils
Merkeley: 1 year deal to try and get more money next year
Mcleod: another bridge deal, not much to say here
Bastian : 1 year deal to try and break out next year
Murray: Not sure how much he is actually worth, he was hurt when I was watching the Devils, so im extremely willing to change it
Wedgewood: Despite the losses he seemed to play well this year, Devils have plenty of cap room so they give him a little more to make sure he stays
Miller: Devils grab him for 1 year so they dont rush the prospects

Ending thoughts: Devils still have 18 mil in cap space after these moves, and 13.8 million more is the bare minimum coming off their books next year, when they have to make some tougher decisions on players as well as resign guys like Hughes.

Devils fans, let me know what you think

Edit: Ignore the taxi squad, its just there to show prospects

    Détails additionnels:
An unorthodox trade between division rivals, NYR dumps Deangelo and avoids a cap penalty but has to give up a 1st rounder to do it, Devils give Deangelo a 2nd chance but with an Incredibly short leash. Worst case scenario, the Devils scratch him or put him in the AHL for the year and let him enter free agency next year.

I love that ADA trade for NJ. I don't see the Rangers accepting it sadly
Murray wasn't good in NJ. I don't see him staying. Instead, switch Murray with Bahl. And switch ADA with Siegnthaler
I think Foote will be ready next year

Why not. That buyout penalty is bad, and the draft pick is a complete gamble, especially this year.

Thanks for the feedback. I wasn't a fan of siegenthaler in Washington but wasn't able to see him in New Jersey so I just left him unsigned, but I can definitely see him starting. I could also see foote being ready but I think the Devils are in a good enough position where they can let him wait for another year and develop him some more.

Also, just to make a note, These are just opening game lines. I can see Foote, Thompson, Mercer, Clarke, Merkeley, and Bahl making the lineup later this year.

    Buyout penalty is

    <400K in 21/22’
    <900K in 22/23’
    So not really bad..

That being said I would rather have him off the books so I’d rather pay a 3rd to SEA to take him and buyout or keep. Or any other team for that matter.

The buyout penalty is barely existent and the Rangers would be foolish to pay a 7th round pick to avoid it, let alone a 3rd, let alone this joke of a post asking for a 1st.

Ah, I though it was much worse than that. I still like the idea of sending him to NJ, but looking at that penalty the only way the Rangers send a 1st is if they panic after getting a new gm or if Dolan goes full moron and forces them to

If drury sent a 1st he would be fired as soon as the trade was made official. No one is THAT dumb. Even a 2nd is WAY too much

A 3rd is a realistic price once you take into account the money they will have to give out to Fox and others down the line. not having to take any money off of the cap, and giving up a 3rd in a draft that is, at best, mediocre, and really tapers off after about pick 35, isn't a hard pill to swallow.

Thus the only reasoning being if someone in the organization panics (doubtful but you never know), or if Dolan pulls a Pegula and decides to make the decisions himself

I agree for the most part. But if you look at who we have to resign in 22/23’ we could really use that extra 900K cap space. Unless we keep ADA buried and move him at the TDL to free up more space for bonuses this season. Moving forward we will be paying out more bonuses. Laf on the 1st line instead of 3rd, he will hit his goals no problem. Fox...well Fox... Kakko and Kravs are going to be better and I’m sure Miller too. It’s all going to boil down to what we lock Buch and Shesty up for. Also how 2C pans out, if Chytil can make the jump and Barron slide into 3C and no need for Strome that helps too. Maybe some favorable bridge contracts will bless us and this “No OS” business continues.. the 3rd/4th is meaningless to us in our current state and it could open that additional cap space for signing RFAs. Only angle I see it useful. Otherwise bury and release at TDL. I think he has to clear waivers again and maybe this year he is picked up

I mean you can keep digging this hole of a thought process that is just wrong, but even in a flat cap world, $883k is a rounding error that can be made up by carrying 22 players on the roster instead of 23 for a couple of weeks, sending young players up and down on paper transactions like the Rangers did all this past year. There is literally no universe where that money will be needed enough to give up any asset, let alone a 3rd. The going rate for getting a 5th to play the middle in 3 team trades at the deadline is like 2.5m in cap space. There is no reasoning here to make this proposal make the slightest shred of sense. D'Angelo is unequivocally going to be bought out by the Rangers on the first day of the buyout window.

Siegnthaler was decent this year. Helped the PK alot
In his first few games, Foote definitely looked ready. Devils didn't play him to save a year of his ELC

The buyout penalty isn't bad. It is only $383K in year one and $883K in year two. Certainly not worthy of giving up a first round pick.
