So the Jets have 2 Dmen that should be kept, bar none, in Pionk and Demelo. People aren’t going to like reading this, but with 6 years and $6.25M left in his deal, the organization should leave morrissey unprotected as he hasn’t been worth that price and it would be an awfully big bet for Seattle to take him. If they did, $6.25M becomes available. If they didn’t, you’ve protected everyone. Now they won’t do this so Demelo-Pionk-Morrissey get protected. Logan Stanley becomes the available Dman they consider taking, which is fine.
With the F’s. The Jets are likely to leave one of Copp or Appleton exposed. Given Copp’s 1 year away from UFA, moving him pre-expansion draft may not be a bad idea for some assets. I’m a huge Copp fan, but arbitration players very rarely sign long term with the team that took them there. Detroit makes sense for Copp as he has Michigan ties, can see an elevated role and have space to add him to their protected list
In this scenario I would not move assets to protect Logan Stanley.
The Pairings are designed by best fit; and ice time would vary depending on game flow. Hamilton would be perfect to bring heinola up with. Samberg is the better Forbort fit with Pionk. And we know how well Demelo works with Morrissey.
Side note: Maurice was canned and Boudreaux brought in
Very good management. You’re far too focused on the handedness of a position rather than total impact and value
No I am focused on the impact that having that much money in that position. Roughly 23% of your cap. All for Pionk getting that amount but as good as he is Hamilton would be too rich for WPG.
The Jets left handed depth far outweighed the right side. Protecting a 23 year old... 3rd pairing Dman over a top 4 RHD signed cheap for years to come would be Peter Chiarelli level of mismanagement
Thinking that DeMelo is anything more then an overpaid 3rd pairing dman is Chiarelli level logic.

The entire idea around building a team under the cap is maximizing talent within that limits. You’re looking far too much at “% spent” at a position, rather than the overall value you’re getting.
You also willingly spent $4M on two guys that aren’t NHL caliber regulars anymore in Zajac and Hamonic.
You have been on this site hyping up Tucker Poolman, Derek Forbort and Logan Stanley. None of which can carry Demelo’s jock strap on the ice.
It’s the very definition of Chiarelli logic
Yes I'm a big hyper of Poolman.. Lol
DeMelo looks like he's about to fall down when he transitions to skate backwards, I don't see what the fascination is with him but I get it, fancy stats say he's good so he must be.

Nothing says “I know hockey” like “he looks like he’s going to fall in my eyes, so he must be bad”
