Detroit has no need for Stralman. Unlike the Staal move last off-season, where he filled a need (played every game by the way), Stralman would not even crack our top 8 in depth. If we're taking on straight cap dumps, it will cost a lot more than that, with no picks going back the other way.

Honestly, I think it would cost even more than that. He was a healthy scratch this season and we're flush on the right side. I'm thinking at least 2 B+ assets.

I mean yeah I was modeling it off the Staal deal obviously although Stralman is better than Staal was. The deal really could be with whoever I just figured Detroit could use a free pick but they could be swapped out with anyone else

You switch it to this year's 2nd and no pick going back and it's a done deal. Staal was great for us last year,it turned out to be a win for us

The problem is Staal was only 3.2M cash & this is 4.5 - 5.5M depending on the timing. Stralman also wouldn’t have a roster spot given Hronek, Seider, and one of Stetcher/Lindstrom would be our RD. The compensation is also a 2023 second round pick, that’s a bit in the future and gets devalued at such.

I kinda figured it was gonna be after the 2021 draft and Florida doesn't have a 2022 2nd which is why I picked 2023

I thought Detroit had enough money to not try to cheap out on a mil here and a mil there lol. Like I said in the back half of the quote Detroit being the team is basically cosmetic and they can be swapped out for whoever you want.

Compensation should be higher given its being pushed back in time.

NHL = business

We’ve seen Detroit buyout Abdelkader for cost savings and we didn’t exactly need the cap. It’s easy to talk about someone else’s money.

As much as I want the Canes to keep Dougie...he isn’t worth the big dollar contracts people give him on this site. He has defensive issues and that’s why a Slavin-Dougie pairing has been good. Maybe a Weeger-Dougie pairing would be good too? However, for a guy who is great on the PP and so-so defensively...giving $8.5x7 is very hard to do. I think this is the crux as to why he hasn’t already been extended with Carolina. It’s the ideal situation for Dougie, and he still can’t find a consistent level of defensive play...especially in the playoffs.

according to the bar graphs he still has positive defensive impacts so I don't really see it as a negative. Weegar-Dougie honestly would probably be one of the best pairings in the league but idk how well Forsling-Ekblad would work

Let me know when you are able to decouple those bar graphs on Dougie away from him being on the ice with Slavin. Also, it makes sense to watch his play too. His offensive aggressive play puts him out of position way too much. This is the style the Canes play, so it makes sense...but he’s out of position way too much. If you want a shining example, go take at look at the game 4 game winning goal in double OT for Nashville.

That's also the style Florida plays so works for me.
