before people go nuts about the orpik trade he will be a top 4 d on buffalo and they are getting a goalie for cheap that has potential to be the next ryan miller ( when he was good)

I wouldn't say Grubauer has Ryan Miller potential, more Martin Jones. But we better bring back one of Oshie or Alzner, especially if we move Orpik's contract. Inserting 5 rookies into the everyday lineup, plus a rookie backup goalie just screams trouble. We'll have the money to bring Oshie back, and you've seen how important he is to us. Alzner too.

oh i completely agree with you hes huge but id rather have carlson than alzner and caps have a bunch of young talent down in the ahl..

i feel vranna/boyd can replace oshie eventually not right away i just would like to see how the young guys. trotz doesnt play them that often...( then again caps have been fairly healthy this year)

Better. But even then, I'd bring in another depth forward with 2 million on a one year contract. As long as Alzner signs for that amount, I'd imagine he'd want a little more.

I know a UFA can sign with anybody they want. But wouldn't the Sabres and Alzner be better off signing for 6m in Buffalo, than Sabres giving up assets to trade for Orpik at 5.5m
Either way, teams can find better ways spend 5.5m than Orpik....though I do admit he has been playing unexpectedly well.
