Likely Nylander, which is too much. Possibly Rielly, but I doubt a rental could convince them to give up Wilson.

Before all the caps haters get in here, I’ll give you the straightforward and honest answer.

Regardless of the hate anyone has for wilson, there is 0 denying he is an effective hockey player that fills a very valuable role on a contender: a high-end checking forward with elite offensive capabilities. He’s good for 50+ points in the regular season and chips in in the playoffs. He is incredibly valuable. Add in his contract that he’s on, and that’s a tough piece to pry away.

If I’m GMBM and I’m trading wilson to shake up this roster, I’m asking for one of the following packages:

High end prospect (Forward or RHD)
Young forward with decent upside
Mid first round pick

Or

Young high upside NHL ready defenseman (preferably RHD)
Second round pick

Ooof. We're not wasting any time, right here. Are we? Obviously we know that Wilson is a bad guy because the Rangers' color commentator and their PR staff said so. Never mind that he stuck up for Vitek Vanecek after the Rangers kicked the Caps' rookie goalie in the leg, after the whistle. Never mind that Vanecek's season ended with a leg injury in his next start. Kelly Hrudey says if a goalie hurts his leg it's his own fault because he didn't stretch ten times a day and turn into a superhero with flexible bones. So, basically, Wilson is worthless. Just take him. If anything, maybe send a worthless, soft, Euro cap dump like Nylander back. /s

I think I’d be willing to do that. He’s highly touted enough that I’d be willing to move wilson for that price even though the first will likely be a late one in 2022. Amirov probably slots into the middle 6 if we acquire him and focus on playing the young guys next season.

wilson doesn't fit the team culture of having assholes we need to bend over backwards to defend. just re-sign simmonds.

I think it's still a little cheap and I agree with your earlier point that WSH could use an RHD prospect. No way TOR gives up Amirov, Liljegren and a 1st, so maybe Amirov, Duszak, 1st. One of the three is bound to eventually come through, right?

He does. Everyone wants Tom Wilson on their team, just like how every team would like a rat in Brad Marchand. He's a very effective player on the ice. No one is touching any Leafs player when he is on the ice

I would also care less about a first round exit when I know I saw my team win the cup. Something Leafs haven't experienced since 1967

couple things

1) maybe wait a couple of seconds before hitting "submit" because every single post you make, you add something else after you post it
2) capitals were supposed to be contenders this season so a first round exit definitely matters to them. don't think caps fans are satisfied with going out in the first round every year since the cup win.

Okay. I get it. You're joking. But he finished first on the Caps in hits against the Bruins, 6th on the team in blocks, and tied for 4th on the team in points. So, you know, decent series for the guy. Ultimately, I think the Rangers won this one for Boston by kicking Vanecek in the leg.

Honestly asking …. Who thought the Capitals were contenders this year? Before the season started I’m positive 60% of hockey fans had them missing the playoffs. I personally had them barely making the playoffs. I also had them losing in 6 to the Bruins. There’s not 1 single person that thought they were a cup contending team.

Wilson is probably a guy safe from any trades. He's exactly what this team should be trying to keep. He's 27 and under contract for another 3 years. Top 6 forward on the team, one of the top power forwards in the league. And before any obnoxious Wilson haters come who don't know a thing about him from watching him nightly, he's a leader on the team. Washington needs to move on from guys like Oshie (even though I love him), possibly Carlson, definitely Kuznetsov. There are depth players they should move on so we can play young guys like McMichael, Protas, Lapierre and the few forward prospects we have. Dillon is a waste of space, Chara is not coming back; should have never traded Siegenthaler. We have Alexeyev and Fehervary on the LHD who need to be playing ASAP. So say we re-sign Ovechkin to a 4 year deal, and he retires after that. Who takes that mantle of captain, who provides leadership? That's exactly where Wilson comes in if we re-sign him. He SHOULD be a guy to keep. I have no idea what BMac will do because we have a really tough offseason ahead of us
